The Grapes Ball in Vrsac, Serbia
Hello everyone. Have you ever been to an event celebrating the grape harvest? If you haven't, you need to do it because your life will be sweeter, at least for that day. π The most famous event dedicated to the grape harvest in my country is The Grapes Ball (in Serbian Grozdjebal) and is held in the Vrsac town. This is part of the tradition and such events are held in many cities in Serbia, but the most famous one is in Vrsac. That's why my family and I went there yesterday and I'll share my impressions with you.
We didn't plan to go there. I heard from my neighbors that The Grapes Ball event is being held this weekend in Vrsac, and as I am a big fan of grapes, I suggested to my family that we spend the day there. The trip to the town of Vrsac did not take long because it is less than 100 km from Belgrade, where I live. We left around 12 noon and arrived in an hour and a half. My kids were thrilled to see the windmills along the way so we stopped to look at them. They were so huge.
The vineyards are also huge, green expanses that produce grapes that are considered gold here, something most valuable.
As soon as we arrived, we visited the famous Vrsac tower, which I will write about in my next post. And then we headed to the city center. I have been to Vrsac several times and I am always impressed by the architecture. There are many old buildings, Austro-Hungarian style, impressive castles and churches.
It was so crowded that we barely passed each other between the stalls where you could try all kinds of grapes and wine.
My attention was drawn to a stall with grapes on which it was written that "grapes are as sweet as my neighbor". π
In addition to grapes, you could also try homemade dried meat, sweets and other products here.
One of the famous traditional products of this place is strudel with poppy seeds. It's delicious.
There were a lot of artists. They sold their paintings and other works of art.
And out of all that, my son chose one cactus to put on his new desk. π
The smell of roasted meat and traditional dishes spread throughout the town.
And I saw something I had never seen before. People were grilling sausages on a pipe. Some were leaving, others were coming. It was interesting to watch them.
While walking through the town, you can't help but notice the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Gerard. It is one of the most impressive buildings I have ever seen and the largest Catholic church in Serbia.
I didn't go inside because it was closed but I admired it from the outside.
In the Town hall there was an exhibition dedicated to grapes and wine.
The town hall is also a beautiful building, built in neo-gothic style.
The more I looked at the grapes, the more I wanted to eat them. π We went outside and bought 2 kg of Muscat Hamburg grapes. It was very sweet and delicious.
We walked a little more. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and the people were smiling and in a good mood.
The stage was ready for the artists who had their performances and made the people even happier with their music.
My children were already tired, so we had to go home. It was our first The Grapes Ball in Vrsac, an interesting and sweet experience.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
Greetings!

Seems like a nice celebration, and I can see that it's far from being limited at grapesπ ...I wouldn't mind trying all that food thereπ
There are a lot of grapes there, it is their greatest treasure. I just ate it and thought it was really worth going there. π
It's the best, I agreeπ
