Two Of The Same - Is It A Couple?

Couple Of Birds Keep Future Going

Dark-capped Bulbul (aka Toppie) these wonderful visitors to our garden are monogamous, roosting at night pressed together perching with heads tucked under-wing.

IMG_7715.JPG

He is an excellent protector while she builds the nest he protects their territory, also feeds her while brooding then assists feeding when chicks are growing, now that is called parenting. Difficult to tell which is male or female being of similar size with same markings.

IMG_0783.JPG

Hadeda ibis another bird where looks don't alter much between the sexes, she is simply a little smaller in stature, another monogamous species.

IMG_7674.JPG

Hadeda when startled at night will take flight screaming on their way up, today spray painting my roof giving me that aloof look, you can't stop me!

IMG_4619.JPG

Red-capped robin-chat where sexes are similar he is slightly more striking in colour, I could not tell which is hopping around before my eyes.

IMG_7818.JPG

Dedication, cooperation between male and female raising young from courtship to parenting making them very good parents. Migratory birds that adapt to different environments and climates in Sub-Saharan Africa.

IMG_7489.JPG

Juvenile Fork-tailed Drongo without the red eye of an adult bird by what I could see. Adults are feisty birds that will bomb raptors and humans to drive them away from their nest.

IMG_7676.JPG

Afrikaans named "Mikstertbyvanger" which aptly describes the agile bird and it's love for eating bees, often found close to bee hives. Robbers on wing, they will attack other birds to steal their catch of the day as well....

DrongoInsect_2020.jpg

Another monogamous pair where Fork-tailed Drongo's female vs male vary slightly in colour, males slightly more glossy , not something you would notice at a glimpse.

Now it's up to you whether they male or female, bit sketchy asking anyone their sex of late, so my preference remains keep guessing and have a wonderful day, thanks for swinging by to read about the birds in the sky.

How are you dear friend @joanstewart good afternoon
I always highlight the beauty of the birds they have there, I love what you say about the work that a pair of birds do together, building and caring for the nest and the chicks.
Beautiful photographs, excellent shots

Like humans many care for their offspring, share duties, yet some simply fly away leave it to the female or male to see the babies to adulthood.

What is life without a bird singing or chatting somewhere in the garden. Thanks for visiting and have a great day!

I'm sure roof tops are the preferred spot for them, something that happens regularly with over the shoulder look of contempt. 'Why you watching?'

Hahahaha, the way they share responsibilities like nest-building and feeding shows a real partnership. Your photos capture their connection perfectly dear friend

"That look", biggest bird in the garden, always first chased by the dog when on the ground.

Don't know what he would do with it..., if he ever caught it!

It's funny, they sometimes give themselves a fright when they actually catch something and get baffled as to what's next!!

Doesn't take this pitbull much to scare himself, let's see dark nights, wind, thunder, rain. Bird simply moves a couple of foot away watching, laughing, I do believe the moles do similar with him digging to Australia trying his luck. Bullshit baffles brains you know 🙃

When it comes to monogamous birds, I am impressed how they stick together for life.
Such a pleasure to read your post. Beautiful photos as always.

It is amazing how many are monogamous, often see two birds together enjoying the late sun or foraging. Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful day.
