The Advantages of Mixed-Sex Schools Over Single-Sex Schools

I had a conversation with my sister after seeing the Hive-Ghana prompt on which school would prefer going to in her next life; she spent all her secondary school days in a single-sex school and she says she wouldn't wish anyone to attend a single-sex school. Her opinion is personal and experiential because of her stay in federal government girls' college. Probably, a boy may not have a similar opinion like her. However, whatever the case may be, I prefer a mixed school over single-sex school for many reasons.

A mixed school comprises both boys and girls as students, meanwhile, a single-sex school has either boys only or girls only in the school. In a mixed school, we are able to identify and differentiate the boys from the girls but for a single-sex school, in the midst of the girls, a male-girl can identify causing a breach in the societal norm. This effect can lure the students to practice lesbianism and gay; this unfortunate circumstance can go further to make the male-girl feel she is meant to be boy, thereby promoting transgender.

On the other hand, there is a balanced society when living in a mixed school because it can build your social life in relation with both boys and girls. Amongst my colleagues, I have one who feels any girl he sees is meant for sex because of the school he came from. He feels this is another world, not knowing we can have a conversation with a girl for hours without having physical contact.

In the aspect of academic excellence, when two opposite sex collaborate with each other, they can help bring out the best from themselves. Generally, the world was created male and female, what is the essence of segregation?

Sometimes, the parents feel that bringing up a child in a mixed school can cause the child to go astray; this is not so. Both schools (same-sex and mixed schools) have students that practice immorality, what matters is the enlightenment. When a child is well trained, educated, and enlightened, he will not depart from the teachings and discipline.

There's a healthy competition in mixed schools when the boys contest with the girls in games, debate, quiz, etc. It builds a bond that can be transferred to their society. Also, as a boy, when you stay in the midst of the girls, you will like to improve yourself - for instance, the way you dress, talk, walk, comport, eat, etc. You have a consciousness to stay responsible because you are in a mixed gathering.

In conclusion, while single-sex schools may offer certain benefits, the advantages of mixed-sex schools in building healthy competition, collaboration, and creating a balanced society make it more preferable for parents to send their kids. With well trained teachers, learning becomes conducive in the mixed-sex environment.

This is my preference, what is yours?

I’m glad your sister’s preference is solely based on her experience because with my experience too, I would always attend a single sex if I get the chance again.

With all the points given, I don’t think anyone would hesitate to attend a mixed school. Those reasons are brilliant especially the one where mixed school gives people the responsibility to be conscious at social gatherings.

You see, I have been their and I can't wish it for anyone not to talk of my children. The experience, the acts, the dealings and all of that is nothing to say publicly. Please it is confidential to say no for my child.
