Altarpieces, those architectural, pictorial and sculptural structures, have had a prominent place in Christian churches for many centuries. They represent religious images or images associated with the icons of the respective era and culture.

In my city (Cumaná, Venezuela), the Metropolitan Cathedral, which was rebuilt in the 30's of the 20th century, has beautiful golden altarpieces, as it was imposed in Spain in the Baroque period and brought to Latin American countries since colonial times.

I wanted to give a sample of some of its most outstanding and attractive icons, using close-up, which I offer here.

Los retablos, esas estructuras arquitectónicas, pictóricas y escultóricas, tienen un lugar destacado en las iglesias cristianas desde hace muchos siglos. En ellos se representan imágenes religiosas o asociadas a los iconos de la época y cultura respectiva.

En mi ciudad (Cumaná, Venezuela), la Catedral Metropolitana, que fuera reconstruida en la década del 30 del siglo XX, cuenta con hermosos retablos dorados, como se impuso en España en el Barroco y traídos a los países hispanoamericanos desde tiempos coloniales.
