If Only I Could See | A Mixed Media Art Project
For my current mixed media art project, I wanted to share another theme depicting sight. Often, I'll encounter a theme in which the elements just elicit different situations. For this project, I wanted to portray a female entangled in two related incidents. She imagines herself helpless in both situations. The ability to see clearly to determine the predicament one finds herself in is crucial to survival.
Seeing is not always the visual ability to detect danger. We also have another ability to see. Instinct provides us with a tool to detect an unpleasant personal or situation from afar that hasn't occurred. It also gives us the insight into understanding when a situation turned from pleasant to unpleasant we are currently experiencing.
This instinct or "gut feeling" people usually refer to it as, warns us to extricate ourselves and move away from danger if it's possible. Have you ever met a person that you didn't quite know how to explain the feeling you got from being around them. You know something is wrong but can't quite distinguish it. It may be that person's body language or words that don't set right.
Still others refer to this seeing as our inner voice.
In designing my theme, I discovered an unusual image of a female with her eyes covered. It worked well with my theme of "If Only I Could See". For my stable diffusion piece, I wanted to depict danger nearby. The image of a horned beast worked well. I utilized one of my favorite stable diffusion programs, StarryAI. Other images are free-sourced.
Below are my steps:
StarryAI Text input:
"Fantasy highly detailed huge ram's round curved horns lying down face up."
Style: Argo 2
StarryAI Result:
Woman in black flowers ~ Woman sleep underground ~ Nature water in grayscale
I then utilized Canva to blend the different images. Below are my steps in which I begin with a blank, white canvas, then added layers of elements, removing backgrounds, resizing, duplicating, filtering, colorizing, and repositioning items as needed.
I share with you my completed project:
