Inspiration From the Last Air Sign In the Zodiac: Aquarius | A Mixed Media Collage Design (Esp/Eng)

(Edited)

For my participation in HiveDIY's Get active! N° 26. Get inspired with Aquarius, I wanted to share with the Community my digital collage for the Aquarius theme.

I know the Zodiac sign, Aquarius, well as I have a child born under it. The symbol is part of the elements of the air. In fact, it's the last air sign. The sign is known as the "Water Bearer". It's usually portrayed as three wavy blue lines under each other. Perhaps this is to signify the flow of water.

The fact that Aquarius represented water but was actually an air Zodiac symbol was always confusing to me. That was, until I learned about the story from Greek Mythology. I love mythology, especially Greek and its tale describing the water bearer as being a young man with a pouch over his shoulder as he carries water.

My confusion was clarified as I read the young man's story.

According to Greek Mythology, Zeus, the supreme god of the sky who dwelled on Mount Olympus, would command his giant eagles to patrol the earth. The ravens were his eyes and once source to the happenings in the world below.

During one of their flights over a mountain range, the eagle spotted a young man. The young man was named Ganymede, a prince of Troy described as extremely handsome.

Zeus would not be denied since anything he desired, he claimed as his. He ordered the eagle to abduct the young man and take him to Mount Olympus.

Ganymede would become his personal servant and the bearer of water to all the gods and goddesses. In that sense, the young water bearer was transformed into one of the demi-gods, and renamed Aquarius to reside forever in the sky.

Thus, the water bearer became the eleventh and final astrological air sign in the Zodiac.

Aquarius plays an extremely important role within the group of air signs. He is highly regarded as a generous and giving soul. This attribute aligns with individuals who are seen as philanthropists.

Finally, Aquarians are thought to be individuals who can see the "big picture" along with big ideas to solve problems. Now that described my child who always seem to approach the family with larger-than-life plans for whatever endeavor is currently trending on the list.

In preparing the collage theme, my inspiration was a free-sourced image I discovered of the Zodiac sign "Aquarius" in colorful purple and blue hues. Resembling a goddess of the water, I built my design around the colors contained in that image.

STEP 1:

I included two images that I felt would be perfect for the background. The abstract image I love because the yellow at the bottom was perfect to break up the different shades of blue. I also included one of my pure fractals I created in the advanced fractal rendering program, Apophysis 7X.

Opening Canva, my design program, I uploaded the two images to start designing the background:

  • Added the abstract image, then enlarged it to fill the entire canvas;
  • Added my pure fractal. Stretched it to fit over a wide portion of the screen in front of the abstract image.

STEP 2:

The Zodiac Aquarius image I chose contained blue and purple. The other female's colors coordinated beautifully with the zodiac image. All that was required for their use was to remove the parts of the female image not needed. For instance, the wings on the female I felt didn't work well with my theme.

I love this version of the Aquarius sign. It resembles a mermaid floating among the stars. The scroll lines are lovely. I won't need the black background, so will remove it.

  • To the purple fractal image, I added a frame to hold the Zodiac symbol;
  • Adjusted the transparency of the fractal so the Zodiac symbol could be visible;
  • Inserted the Zodiac symbol; then enlarged it;
  • Added the female with wings;
  • Removed the wings from the female's photo. Positioned the female next to the Zodiac symbol;
  • Repositioned the Zodiac symbol layer behind the female.

STEP 3:

I wanted the female to drink the water provided by the Aquarius goddess so I added a glass and surrounded it with water bubbles. I also included several other free-sourced images to surround the female such as landscape body of water. I chose to position the female's legs as though they were relaxing in the water.

  • To the overall canvas, I added each of the images below, resizing and positioning them to fit in the available space;
  • I placed the water element as a small body of water underneath the female's feet; then reduced its size and duplicated it to fill the bottom portion of the screen;
  • The final image I added was the vase pouring water into the lake.

  • This completed my design.

I share with you my completed Aquarius project:

262866.png

  • Añadí la imagen abstracta y la amplié para que ocupara todo el lienzo;

Pixabay-Darkmoon-aquarius-7617682_640.jpgPixabay-Vika_glitter-wings-woman-angel-5283547_640.jpg

  • A la imagen fractal morada le he añadido un marco para sujetar el símbolo del Zodiaco;
  • Ajusté la transparencia del fractal para que el símbolo del Zodíaco pudiera ser visible;
  • Inserté el símbolo del Zodiaco; luego lo amplié;
  • Añadir la mujer con alas;
  • Quitar las alas de la foto de la mujer. Colocar la mujer junto al símbolo del Zodiaco;

Drink ~ Rain drops ~ Blue water pitcher pouring water ~ Pink Vein Petunia flower - Contributed to the #LIL by @alex2alex ~ Blue Water splashing ~ Geometric colorful shapes ~ Gray / Black abstract image ~ Flower

  • Al lienzo general añadí cada una de las imágenes siguientes, redimensionándolas y colocándolas para que cupieran en el espacio disponible;
  • Coloqué el elemento acuático como una pequeña masa de agua bajo los pies de la mujer; luego reduje su tamaño y lo dupliqué para que ocupara la parte inferior de la pantalla;

Thanks to you I have understood the true meaning behind aquarium.

As for the design, this alternative art is admirable. As it is related to water, it looks very much like a sea nymph to me.

Good work.

Hello @neblomax. Thanks so much for stopping by. Yes, the images I've always seen of the constellation Aquarius was resembled a sea nymph until I learned the origin as told in Greek Mythology. It makes perfect sense to be of the air and not of water.

I appreciate your kind compliment for my project. Thanks for the engagement and support. Take care.
