So Much Love Waiting - A ZapFic 250-Word MicroFiction Story | Based on 12 April 2024, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2340 | Prompt: the other bedroom (el otro dormitorio)

MicroFiction: A 250 word story written using the word prompt "the other bedroom".

...When I think of individuals who are fortunate enough to have available a spare bedroom, I wonder what they intend to use it for? An office, a place for storage, or to help family, friends, or a complete stranger that may need a place to shelter for whatever reason until that person can become independent again. I think of senior citizens who go to live with their children. Having a welcoming space where one can call his or her own is a Godsend. But how many individuals open up their homes to others? What are the consequences of doing so? Past experiences can deter an offer of assistance. I want to share a story around the prompt "the other bedroom" utilizing the micro fiction format of storytelling that is told in exactly 250 words.

For my theme, I was inspired by and utilized the @daily.prompt's publishing of 12 April 2024, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2340: the other bedroom.

Below is my story:

The two-story, gray building where promises were housed stared back at the Morton's as they parked, turned off the ignition, then sat hoping that inside their future awaited. The path that brought them to that place was long and painful. Two miscarriages in three years.

When the happy event did occur, the couple rejoiced. But happiness sometimes is fleeting. The pew witnessed their grief as little Thomas' love, laughter and adventures with them lasted only two years.

"Don't despair. We know not the reason. We must trust that He knows." Their pastor's comforting words settled their minds and hearts.

With hope and faith as allies, they now stood at the infant unit window. The couple watched with furrowed brows.

The Safe Haven Baby Boxes brought tears to their eyes. Did the infants come with Orange Bags depicting ethnicity or other valuable information? Which ones will have a home waiting?

Remembering their heartbreaking journey, Mario continued to stare into the nursery. He recalled how much love his wife had to give. Whether the person was deserving, her heart was full of compassion.

Squeezing his hand, Naomi also thought of her husband's capacity for goodness. A friend, loyal companion, devoted son, and potential father to a needy child.

But returning to the trials of overcoming fertility issues for them both was mentally and financially daunting. Once they decided to place their resources elsewhere, new opportunities to become parents materialized.

Mario turned to Naomi and whispered, "the other bedroom is available for two.

...Cuando pienso en las personas que tienen la suerte de disponer de una habitación libre, me pregunto ¿para qué pretenden utilizarla? Una oficina, un lugar para guardar cosas, o para ayudar a familiares, amigos o a un completo desconocido que pueda necesitar un lugar donde refugiarse por el motivo que sea hasta que esa persona pueda volver a ser independiente. Pienso en las personas mayores que se van a vivir con sus hijos. Disponer de un espacio acogedor al que uno pueda llamar suyo es un regalo de Dios. Pero, ¿cuántas personas abren sus casas a los demás? ¿Cuáles son las consecuencias de hacerlo? Las experiencias pasadas pueden disuadir de ofrecer ayuda. Quiero compartir una historia en torno al tema "el otro dormitorio" utilizando el formato de microficción de relato que se cuenta en exactamente 250 palabras.

A continuación mi historia.

Tanto Amor Esperando

El edificio gris de dos plantas donde se alojaban las promesas miraba fijamente a los Morton mientras aparcaban, apagaban el contacto y se sentaban con la esperanza de que dentro les aguardara su futuro. El camino que les llevó hasta allí fue largo y doloroso. Dos abortos en tres años.

Cuando se produjo el feliz acontecimiento, la pareja se alegró. Pero la felicidad a veces es efímera. El banco fue testigo de su dolor cuando el amor, la risa y las aventuras del pequeño Thomas con ellos duraron sólo dos años.

"No desesperéis. No sabemos la razón. Debemos confiar en que Él lo sabe". Las reconfortantes palabras de su pastor tranquilizaron sus mentes y sus corazones.

Con la esperanza y la fe como aliadas, se asomaron a la ventana de la unidad infantil. La pareja miraba con el ceño fruncido.

Las cajas de bebés de Safe Haven les hicieron llorar. ¿Los bebés venían con bolsas naranjas que mostraban su origen étnico u otra información valiosa? ¿A cuáles les esperaba un hogar?

Recordando su desgarrador viaje, Mario siguió mirando la habitación del bebé. Recordó cuánto amor tenía que dar su mujer. Tanto si la persona lo merecía como si no, su corazón estaba lleno de compasión.

Apretando su mano, Noemí pensó también en la capacidad de bondad de su marido. Amigo, compañero leal, hijo devoto y padre potencial de un niño necesitado.

Pero volver a las pruebas de superar los problemas de fertilidad para ambos era mental y económicamente desalentador. Cuando decidieron poner sus recursos en otra parte, surgieron nuevas oportunidades de ser padres.

Mario se volvió hacia Naomi y le susurró: "El otro dormitorio está disponible para dos".
