A day at the goat house

I worked at the rabbitary last week for my training work, and this week I have been posted to the goat section , where I am to work as well as gain more knowledge and the management of goats.

Now the goat section has two separate goat houses : One for adult goats (billy and nanny( and the other one is for the young goats which are known as the kid. They practice intensive system for the young goats and semi intensive system for the adult goats.

Daily routines.

The first house I worked on was the adult goat house where I released them and allowed them to feed on grass in the environment .

After they left the house, I swept their house and removed their faeces as well as feed remains in their house , I also packed them and threw them away.

Immediately I was done , i washed their water trough and provided them with water they can drink after grazing around their house surroundings.

I was done cleaning the adult goat house , I moved straight to the kid house where the kids were kept and confined in their house . They are not allowed to graze in the surroundings and they are always kept indoors.

What I did in their house was to first removed the remaining feed and dirts in their feeding trough on the floor and i swept the the feed remains as well as their faeces away from their pen. I also packed it and threw it away .

After I was done I fetched water and provided their them with enough water as well to drink after eating.

Since the kids where not allowed to graze I provided them with grasses to to feed on.

Importance of daily routines

. This daily routines as the name implies are been done daily so as to prevent the animals from contracting several diseases that may be harmful or dangerous to their wellbeing.

. To prevent them from parasites such as tick and worms that can lead to reduced reproduction and performance of this animals.

. To provide a clean ,healthy and conducive environment for this animals to live in.

To start the rearing of goat is not hard all you need to do first is look for a place that is conducive and not at the direct ray of sunlight to prevent them from heat which could lead to reduced reproduction in especially female animals.

After the housing is done , you can just get a male and 2 females to start ,you can now make use of the male to mate the two females and by doing that you will surely get more young ones and offspring. They can be of different breeds to allow for cross-breeding that will produce more offsprings with desirable characters and behaviour.
