Sunday theater
Hello friends, today public to tell you about the fabulous experience I had this Sunday. Art is part of the diet with which I feed my soul and this Sunday I can say that my soul was fully satisfied with “the necklace,” a play that provoked a lot of emotion in me.
Recently, “theater week” took place in Havana, an event that is a delight for theater lovers. Fortunately, I was able to enjoy very good plays but I did not have the opportunity to attend this one. When I found out that this past weekend was the last performance of the season, I decided that I couldn't miss it and I'm really glad that I dedicated a good part of my Sunday to heading to the island ship to witness this show.
The collar is a theatrical show that includes dance, choral singing, drumming, and even puppets. It is a very complete work of exceptional quality. The staging was carried out by Osvaldo Doimeadios, a wonderful Cuban actor, comedian, theater director, writer, screenwriter and professor who coincidentally had his birthday this Sunday and who deserves congratulations both on his birthday and on the play. The scenic journey was inspired by “The Dance,” a book by Abelardo Estorino that I hope to read soon.
The play took place in several stages so the audience was guided by the actors from one room to another. The first moments were a little beyond my understanding. Very beautiful lullabies were sung that reminded us all of our childhood. The actors danced and Little by little they began to immerse themselves in their characters or roles. The story revolves around an almost elderly woman who lives in a huge house where the only company she has are her treasured memories and her delirious fantasies. This character is represented by 3 actresses of different ages who mark 3 important stages in her life. It would be very complex for me to tell the work or detail in a deep way the course of the story since I found it extremely complex but beautiful. The work made me think a lot, I use current social phenomena such as emigration, the distance between loved ones, the cost of pursuing certain dreams without really valuing what we are losing in that process and how symbolic some material things can become for us.
This work made me question some of my concepts and was moved by the things I experience daily from other points of view. It really gave me a lot more than I expected. In the moments when I looked at other members of the audience I realized that it was also an intense experience for them. I really think I would fall short using any of the adjectives I know to describe what I experienced at that moment and how perfect the staging was in my eyes.
Sounds like an amazing experience! Great that it made you really think and feel, would love to experience something like that someday. Thanks for sharing 😁
Seems pretty interesting. To be able to see the reactions of the audience and see what they're feeling must be a pretty unique experience. A room full of diverse emotion.
