My One Magical Wish At Christmas || LOH #164

Merry Christmas, lovely ladies of Hive! Since the start of this week, I've been writing about Christmas, the traditions and expectations. There's some excitement in the air and preparations are underway. This season is the best time of the year for me and my family.

Once I read the Ladies Of Hive Community Contest # questions by @nainaztengra, I became interested in writing on the second question because I have so many wishes that I want to see come true. They seem tall and impossible but I'll stay hopeful and believe that they can come true.

One beautiful aspect of the Christmas season is the celebration of family and love, regardless of the circumstances. The joy is always contagious. Once it's November, the preparations begin in earnest in my country. People are nicer at this time and spread the cheer around. Every smile, hug, conversation and kind act is about the season. Even if someone is a Grinch and wants to stay away from the celebrations, it's difficult because the festive spirit is contagious—unless that person is severely depressed.

During the festive period, it's common to meet people and families struggling to make ends meet. No doubt money plays an important role in the celebrations. The skyrocketing inflation in my country has made survival so hard and the cost of living is extremely higher than in the past years. Some families aren't sure how they will celebrate, still they are hopeful.

Christmas goes beyond celebrating. It's also about giving. It's the perfect time to extend a helping hand to those in need.

My heart breaks every moment when I hear or see people struggling to survive. My family was once in a similar position and we had no hope of celebrating until a kind friend went above and beyond for us. I'll never forget that Christmas. So if I had ONE MAGICAL WISH for the Christmas holidays, it would be that everyone, young and old, is blessed with good comfort and means to celebrate the season.

To me, good comfort means being surrounded by family and loved ones with good food on the table, decent shelter, security, good health and some change in their pocket.

It's easy to wish for wealth and grandeur but we also have to be realistic. Not everything is about money or opulence. Many in the hospitals would give anything in exchange for health and vigour to celebrate the festivities with their loved ones. They would rather opt for heartfelt connections with their family than money.

Whenever I think of ways I could help others partake in the festivities, I'm quick to reach out. I'm familiar with a few families and acquaintances close to my residence and I try my best to reach out to them in my own small way.

I know people who would forgo their wealth to rekindle lost relationships or revive dead ones with loved ones. Christmas is always a good time to mend fences with people we've had disagreements with and hopefully, the joy of the season softens them up for reconciliation.

Our wishes and dreams may not always come to pass especially at Christmas but we have to keep the hope alive and do the bit we can to make the season an enjoyable and peaceful one.
