AN ACT OF KINDNESS

There are few people I've met in my lifetime who have shown me that there's still good in this world. I've come to discover that doing good takes a lot of courage, so many times people care, but are not courageous enough to do the right thing. It takes courage to see a random person begging for assistance and decide to lend a hand. This is because times have changed unlike in the Bible days where we read about Abraham feeding strangers and welcoming strangers. Seeing how hard it is to even trust those you know talkless a stranger. No one would want to put themselves in harm's way in the process of helping people they have never met before and only a few will dare to do so regardless.

I can not begin to count the number of times I've received random help at difficult stages of my life, sometimes I get so touched by these kind gestures that I wish I could do so for someone that instant just to know how it feels rendering help. But after those moments my human nature tends to forget my intentions in times when I'm in the capacity to give help. I remember I was living before I started working, and although I never liked begging, there were times that was the only option. The only thing I never did was beg on the streets, but I did beg from close friends once in a while. It wasn't easy for me to swallow my pride to ask and every time I did ask I felt less of a man.

So the day I got a call from the company I'm working for now that I had been scheduled for an interview and I needed to come with a copy of my CV even after sending a soft copy. That day I did not have the transport fee to go there nor the money to print myself a CV. So I called a very good friend of mine who did well to help me out. The money he sent was enough to help me print my CV and also take me to and fro. But there was another issue, I was feeling too weak because I hadn't eaten for days. At that point, I was tempted to get something, but it took a lot to resist. On getting to where I would print my CV, a random man saw the soft copy of my CV before it was printed and told the cyber cafe personnel not to collect money from me but to add it to his bills.

When the cafe personnel told me, tears almost rolled down my cheeks, but my pride wouldn't let them fall 😂. I thanked the man and went my way, but rushed to get a cheap snack and a drink because I now had spare money to eat. Well, I guess I crushed the interview which is why I'm currently working with the company lol, but the day I received my first salary, I went out to withdraw cash and on coming back I saw a guy who needed just 1,000 naira to fix his small (touch light) phone. Seeing him reminded me of myself a month back and I couldn't help but give him the money.

That same day I was going to visit a friend and the driver of the bus I boarded was embarrassing an elderly woman who wasn't having enough with her to pay for her transportation. I told the driver to leave her alone and paid for both of us after I saw the woman was ready to trek the long distance because she didn't have enough. I remembered there was a time someone helped me when I needed to get a job that gave me the money I had. I have been shown an act of kindness, and it's only right I spread it to others.

Indeed, it takes courage to actually help without looking back. I'm glad you had someone who helped you out when you needed it the most and that lesson left you with doing same good to others.

I keep saying this kindness is contagious. Sometimes people need to experience kindness in other for them to be kind too.

Thank God for that man who paid for a copy of your CV. He is indeed a kind person

Kindness is beautiful. God bless that man and your friend, too.

I'm glad you're out of that phase; it can be so depressing. And now, you understand what it means when someone says they're too broke and you have the mind to help them, even from the little you have. It's nice.

I celebrate you.

It is always a blessing when one can pay-it-forward 🙏🥰 God is good. Always. Do you ever wonder what kind of a ripple effect might have been created the day your CV was paid for? I imagine that God's ripples are still being felt to this day by that one act and that there are many more of them happening every day around the world started by similar acts of selflessness.
