EMERGENCY

The very first time I heard about an emergency fund was when I was very sick and needed to go for my theater rehearsal. I was unable to go because the sickness grew worse and it was hard for me to get out of bed. My theater director called me to ask why his main character was not in rehearsal and from my voice you could tell that something was very wrong. He came shortly after to check up on me, and seeing the condition I was in decided to take me to the hospital. He paid all the bills and when I was well and decided to thank him, he simply said, it's the reason we have emergency funds for such emergencies.

Yesterday I got home from work and my sister told me she was very cold. I didn't take it seriously because it's the rainy season and the walls tend to absorb cold. Also considering the fact that she was home all through that day, it was only logical to say her body was yearning for sunlight. But then at around 2:00 am this morning, she woke me because she was so cold and so hot at the same time. She had a very high fever that we had to battle till dawn before I took her to the hospital. At first I knew it would be best to carry out a test on her instead of just telling the doctor how she was feeling and expect the normal prescription.

The test required money which I had to root out and then treatment followed. Everything that happened was unexpected and I'm still licking my wounds from the money I had to take out to get it all done, but then again, I'm glad I was able to pull through. I would suggest saving between 10 - 30% of every income for emergencies because we do not know when catastrophe will strike and we pray it doesn't meet us helplessly. This isn't my first emergency experience, but just imagining how difficult it would have been for my sister if those funds were not already in place.

Glad you were able to come through for your sister ❤️... I never thought of having an emergency fund until recently when I took ill and had to rush to the hospital, up until now I'm still trying not to cry about the amount of money I spent 😂

I have always been intentional about savings until APC where it seems we just work and earn to feed. But I'm trying to get on it now. Glad you could come through for your sister, you did well.
