ESSENTIALS OF SOCIAL MEDIA

The topic of social media is one so vast that it evolves on its own and keeping up would never be easy. Just when you think you got it all figured out something new comes up. One thing about social media is that it is the part of technology that is ever evolving. We knew about Facebook some years ago, but now we have meta which is 10x what it used to be. Social media started as a way to connect with family and friends far away, at least that was what Mark Zuckerberg said the initial idea was. Today it is more about business as a medium of promoting goods and services. I won't be surprised if social media one day becomes a currency of its own because of how much value it has given businesses. It's super easy to go viral these days especially when you can go the extra mile and do things differently.

These days there is also a lot of nonsense going on in that space because a lot of people just copy others not knowing how the Algorithm works. And even though meta has courses that explains every area of its space (So does a lot of other social media apps) A lot of people don't know about it and only open social media because everyone says it's cool. But I think another way we can empower the next generation is to start teaching them the power of social media. Let's face the truth, in both basic and elementary schools we learned the basics of everything we need to learn in highschool, and in highschool we are supposed to learn the basics of the things we will have to face in life. But instead too much energy is focused on maths and physics. 97% of the students won't end up doing in the future.

If we think about it, as much as 100% of the population of highschool students will eventually use social media in one way or another because this is the digital age. Why not we begin to make good use of these stats to improve the lives of the future generation. I'm sure it would go a long way in providing jobs that the government can't provide enough because the human mind is a mystery and with the right knowledge, we will definitely expand on it at some point and do unbelievable things with it. Although I understand this knowledge can be a two edged sword, I believe with the right training, the other end of the sword would be so blunt even though it's not entirely removed. There are a lot of things I wish I could do with social media even now, but I only started learning it at a point where working became a priority which made the learning process more difficult.

I strongly believe that if social media is introduced into the curriculum, we will see wonders that we can not even begin to imagine. This is because those learning it would have time to process every bit of the things that they learned. They are not doing it for the money, but simply because they want to be the best. I feel money has limited the true potentials of social media and that is why it is not entirely a safe space for kids. If we want to build a safe space, we need to start with these little ones. Maybe a social media platform for kids will be something to be considered one day, so at least they can have a first hand experience before becoming adults who will eventually become money focused.

A point here @kilvnrex . The evolving of time and happenings. Facebook and now meta. Who knows what will be next? The vastness is one major issue. Where should the focus starts from?

Am sure if these youths from high schools pay more attention as they keep using social media, there will be improvements and opportunities in the next generation to come even if they don’t learn it in classes.
