EVERY TIME IS SCREEN TIME
As a child, I would often sneak into the sitting room around odd hours just to turn on the TV at a very low volume when everyone was asleep just to go back to my favorite cartoon. I grew up doing this and was caught on a few occasions but always managed to cover my tracks with silly lies which right now I'm not even sure if my parents believed or if they just let me go lol… naaa if they didn't believe I would know 😂. Okay let me be serious, so I think one time my aunt caught me because then my sister and I shared a room and my aunt would normally sleep with us. My dad bought a new television and put the old one in our room, so when everyone was sleeping, I would turn it on to continue my cartoon. I had to pause for a while after she caught me red-handed and scolded me but never told my parents.

As a teenager, my mum like every Nigerian mum would also complain about my attachment to my phone and would either cease it or use it against me whenever I did something wrong. She would say something like “if it's to be pressing the phone now, you can do it very well, but common plate, you can't wash well” When I became a young adult it never stopped and only reduced after I left home. You can't blame me, of course, I'm attached to my device, it's what pays the majority of my bills, and even before I joined hive, I was either making money or looking for ways to make money. And when I'm not doing that, I'm playing video games or watching a movie.
I remember some weeks back I shared a story of how I left my phone at the office and remembered while in a cab heading home. I had thought I lost my phone and was already panicking until I decided to go back to the office and check. If one thing was certain, it was that I couldn't imagine my life right now without my phone especially. I started thinking about hive, and all the things I'm doing online to try to make something out of life. Losing my phone was not something I could even begin to Imagine. When I'm not making money, I'm trying to make money, and when I'm not trying to make money I'm trying to research to learn a new skill, and when I'm not doing that because maybe I'm too tired and mentally stressed for anything work, I just play video games or watch a movie depending on how I feel at that time.

So yes I'm glued to my device. life is boring when it goes off, and it's only off the radar when I'm sleeping. A month ago I had to get eyeglasses because I was beginning to feel some discomfort in my eyes which obviously was the result of years of too much screen time. Although there are a lot of times I just drop the phone when I want to reflect or make important decisions that would need me to think about my life. Other times I'm not looking at my phone is when I'm with friends and family. I feel it's disrespectful to be on my phone when they are around so I give them full attention. Life for me is interesting when my phone is with me and fully charged, and now that I think of it, my mother was right, I'm really addicted to this thing 😂.
