MY WEIRDLY BUT FUNNY EXPERIENCE WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Ever entered a public transport going the wrong way before? I use public transport if I'm sure my leggedis Benz would not get me to my destination on time, or if I have to travel a long distance. I hardly get into trouble in public because I try as much as possible to be careful, but then there are times when unforeseen circumstances just happen and we find ourselves in deep shit. I have had trouble with public transport on only three occasions in my life, one I shared recently that happened while I was still in my boarding highschool when I sneaked out of school with my friends to go clubbing. If you remember that story, good, if you don't, sorry 😂.

Another weird but funny encounter I had with public transport was the first time I wrote my NECO (National Examination Council). My parents thought I should try out my first NECO in a different school to see how I would perform, this time I had to leave the comfort of my house and the school I knew, and bear the discomfort of taking public transport to a school in an area I wasn't familiar with. I was writing that exam from our house in Warri Delta state, and the school was a 1 hour drive from home. That fateful day, my mum drove me to school and gave me money for my transportation back home. She didn't forget to show me where I should take a bus going my way.

Unfortunately for me, after closing I saw some students standing at the bus stop my mum said I should take a bus from, but I didn't listen to the destination the bus conductor was shouting. I just entered the bus with them with the assumption that since they stood at the same bus stop with me, they were going my way. I wasn't too familiar with the route to the school, but I just felt weirdly off with the direction the bus driver was taking. But since I wasn't the only student there, I stayed calm until all the students in the bus came down at a particular destination.

I felt my destination was still far as I knew it took time to reach the school with my mum until everyone had come down from the bus and the bus conductor asked me where I was going. Immediately he asked, I knew I had entered the wrong bus, and just as I mentioned my destination, the bus driver and the conductor both shouted because I was very far away from home. They asked me if I had up to 300 naira, of which I did and they put me in the bus going to my destination without collecting the money from me. The bus conductor asked if I was new in town, and I said yes because I had just changed schools.

Prior to my getting home, everyone was worried where I had been as I didn't take my phone along with me. I got home at about 7:00 pm that day, seeing everyone standing outside my house gate calling the school and those that my mum had put me under their care. Seeing me for them was a breath of fresh air, and for me, it was weird and embarrassing. Narrating my ordeal to them was the worst part, because It made me the laughing stock of the house for a week or so. My younger sister especially never stopped talking about it no matter how many times I shuned her, until the entire matter died down with time.
