NOT A WORKAHOLIC

At the point of writing this post, I’m super exhausted plus I’m still at the office because I do not want writing to be one of the things I would still have to do when I get home. Today my colleagues were teasing and stated that if the company were to give awards to those working overtime the most, I would definitely win. I just laughed because technically they are correct. One had to ask me in the middle of the conversation how I stay up so late and still come to work early the next day. I just said it’s because I have nothing to do at home, but the truth is that is only 5% of the truth. I actually have a lot of things I could do at home, but yet I choose to stay in the office and sometimes feel at home. I know a lot of people might find it weird, but it’s the main reason that keeps me from burning out. Although there are some exemptions to it because it doesn’t work everytime and there is actually no place like home.

The first thing I love about my office space is my office chair, it’s so comfortable that I can adjust it to work and to relax if I feel tired. Then again, I am someone who multitasks a lot, but at the same time, I procrastinate a lot. I am not a workaholic like a lot of people like to think in my office, I just make sure to get the job done whenever I am given a task, no one just knows how I manage to get it done, so technically what people see are my results. For a start, I am not a morning person, and am not really productive in the early hours of the day. If you want me to burn out faster, let me start working in the morning. I will be lucky to last an hour without feeling exhausted. I am more productive from around the hours of 4:00 PM and that is when I start to do my tasks for the day.

The only time when I feel burnt out during or after working towards the evening is when I am not allowed to rest during the morning and afternoon hours. I am already exhausted even before I start working and only work because of a strong will to finish my tasks. This attitude do put me in a lot of tight situations especially when I’m given a lot of task and would have to go home at ungodly hours of the day and sometimes not finish them because I also have other things to do leaving those tasks hanging and making me come up with a lot of excuses as to why I could not finish different tasks. But on a normal day, this attitude helps me keep my head in the game and come out with the best results.

If I am at home, I would often skip breakfast, but at work, It is to be the most important meal of the day. The moment I get to the office and settle down, I want to eat, and watch a movie at the same time. This is because I’m not a morning person like I mentioned earlier, and on a normal day would have started sleeping around that time. But since I have to be awake, I would need a movie (Usually a series) to help calm my nerves as I eat. I could also be listening to my favorite podcast, or Pocket FM filled with fantasy novelas so I can calm my nerves to kick off for the day. After which I do some work routines, and if nobody disturbs my work during that period, it goes smoothly. I don’t usually count the activities at that time as work, because they are usually minor. But by the time I’m done with all the mino stuff (watching movies in between) Then I’m ready for the major tasks.

I understand, sometimes you can be comfortable at work, I have also felt that way sometimes, but there are also days when I come back very exhausted and I just want to eat and sleep. I think it all depends on the mood.

I too like watching movie or pressing my phone while eating but it's just because it's a habit.
It's good we know ourselves and work in Accordance to our body needs and requirements

Having a healthy environment at work is essential, and we must also be aware that if we see that we are not well we must seek help.

The way you lead your life is very interesting, you are very unique! It really seems very important to take the time to feel good, with the necessary mood to face the work of the day and thus be more efficient. I applaud your initiative, but I think that many companies will not like the idea that their employees see movies before starting to work 😂 So I congratulate you for being working on a company that allows you to enjoy that privilege haha.

Lo que si tengo claro es que un trabajador feliz, es un empleado eficiente, leal y What I am clear is that a happy worker is an efficient, loyal and productive employee, hopefully all companies understood and let their workforce grow in this pleasant way, we would have a better world.

Yes you are right, Many companies will not like the idea, and my company is no exemption. That is why I don't let it become obvious that I'm watching movies and always have another screen opened incase any of my bosses arrive lol
