NOT SO NEW YEAR

January 1st came and I was like “All I want to do is sleep” because I was so tired. This was after standing for more than 3 hours because I volunteered to work as an usher for the crossover service in the church. I wasn't supposed to stand that long, I wasn't even supposed to stand at all, I was a friend of mine who was volunteering and because I knew it would be hectic I decided to join her to reduce the stress on her side. But unfortunately for me, she was happy not to return the favor. She ushered for like 45 minutes and was complaining of pains in her legs so I thought; “okay, let me help you out” only to realize that the restroom she was going to was her leaving the work for me. I mean who does that 🤦

I initially thought about leaving when I was tired, I mean I wasn't even supposed to be there in the first place, but as a good Samaritan that I am, I decided to be a soldier for the night. I stood at the gate controlling the ground going in and out from 10:00 PM December 31 to 1:00 AM January 1st. It was in that position I respected security men. Not just for the work they do, but because it takes a lot of discipline to guard the gate when others are having all the fun inside. I heard people shouting Happy New Year, and I couldn't help but feel the boredom of the year. At that point nothing Interested me because there's no feeling like crossing over with family and friends. A little part of me regretted not going home for the holidays, as I stood there looking at everyone celebrating with friends and family. My friends couldn't even spot me because they never knew I was even around in the first place and having friends like me who don't near the gate unless they got to go home.

At a point, I decided to go inside to at least see what was happening. I felt guilty somehow for not leaving anyone at the gate, but then again, a boy's just looking for some fun hehe… I didn't even stay long inside after I saw the girl that left me to do her job sitting and enjoying the service. I went to meet to let her know I caught her, but it was as though she could care less how I felt about what she did. Anyway I wasn't angry, for reasons I don't even know, I just went back to my duty Post, and after the close of service around past 2:00 am I couldn't find my friends so I slept in the church till dawn. I left the church around past 6:00 AM, got home around past 7:00 AM, and had a proper sleep till around 11:00 am.

I woke up, took my PC, and finished some pending office jobs I had before I started feeling hungry at about past 2. I contemplated on what to eat for about three hours until a friend I was chatting with convinced me to make my favorite tribal soup to celebrate the new year at least. So I went into the market for a soup experiment. Turned out I had never cooked my favorite soup before and it would be my first time even going to the market to buy the ingredients. But at the end of the day, my Banga soup with fresh catfish was ready and it turned out way better than I expected lol. Well, no one would believe me here, but sorry y’all wouldn't be able to prove me wrong either 😂.

Sometimes that’s what Good Samaritan face, as a gentle and kind hearted person that you’re😂she used that opportunity to JP😂

It’s a new year and you weren’t feeling happy about it. I’m just curious to why you weren’t, I mean everyone is looking forward to a new beginning and the thought of it alone brings joy to the heart. So why weren’t you happy?

And your banga soup, I wasn’t expecting it to come out well because you’re a guy and it your first time making it. Maybe you should share your experience while making it.

I wasn't feeling happy about it because I had made my plans already, and I could only think about the task ahead

My first time cooking things always turn out nice lol

Hahaha 😆 your new year was something different. Security men are doing a hard job and one should give kudos to them, not that easy as it seems until we experience it too. That lady didn't do well at all. She could have assisted you back when she knew it was her job but you volunteered to help, she could have shown concern. Well, in the end and how it turned out to be, you had fun with your favourite soup for the new year year.

Banga soup with fresh fish sounds a good choice for New year day, instead of another rice dish, hehehe! And you did great manning the gate as your duty post, even though you were tricked into doing it... but friends can be funny sometimes, right? I came in from #dreemport.
