RELATIONSHIPS AND GENOTYPES

(Edited)

To be honest I've never had to worry about my genotype… This is coming from someone who has been in a number of failed relationships not as though anyone is counting hehe… I've heard about how important it is for couples to check their compatibility before getting married and most importantly before having children (just Incase they don't wish to get married). Growing up I saw my dad check his genotype for the first time after three kids. He did it because he had to leave the country for a Job and that was when he mentioned he was AA. Years later my mum, pregnant with our last born, had to do a genotype test because the doctor recommended it and then discovered she was AA…

About a month ago I discovered my sister had done a genotype test long ago when she was entering a boarding school making me wonder why I never had mine then. Later on in life I met a lady I was interested in who just happened to be AS and needed to be sure of my own genotype. This made me start taking the whole genotype thing seriously and thought maybe it's about time I checked. Although I was always of the impression that my genotype is AA, but since there was no medical proof to back it up it was more or less a fantasy. When I decided to finally check, to my surprise it was just as expected 😂. I mean my parents are AA. What are the chances of me taking on another genotype… there are chances though, but it's very rare.

This brings the big question, what if I was AS, would I let the lady I was interested in go… Well that would be dependent on whether or not she still agrees to push through with the relationship… Okay before you come for me Allow me to explain myself. Since everyone is entitled to an opinion, I'm of the opinion that AS + AS is not a death sentence, just make sure you have either of these three things. The first is a good amount of money that can make one call you a millionaire, a decision to only adopt kids, or choosing to give birth only through artificial insemination so that all the eggs with SS genes can be neutralized living only the AS genes… but know this process will require number one suggestion.

If either of the Three suggestions I have given can never be met, then I wouldn't advise partners with AS genes to marry and most of all have kids together. I have a friend who's SS, he usually talks about his struggles from birth. Both his parents (Now late) Were doctors and he's the only one with the SS gene because his pregnancy was not expected. According to him he practically spent 70% of his childhood in different hospitals and still visits the hospital at least twice a week to this day. One time we traveled together for a camp meeting and he forgot to take his meds along. I was literally afraid we would lose him when his episode started, thankfully I was able to get him to a nearby hospital and the doctors were able to help. The SS genotype is a curse any AS+AS partner who decides to birth children would be putting on them, so it's best to avoid what can't be managed.

You are not the only one who literally forgets to check his or her genotype before getting deeper into relationships. But in ur case, you are just lucky that the outcome of the test didn't go wrong
Ur parents too were lucky if not, their children would have suffered the effects of medical incompatibility...back then, there was nothing like medical checks and that's why u can always see children with SS and jumping from one hospital to another
Now that we know better...we shouldn't allow love to cloud our sense of reasoning. The outcome won't be palatable

Indeed you have rightly spoken... We need to keep raising awareness about this subject matter

I happened to know someone back then in school who was SS, omo that girl suffered going from one hospital to the other. At some, she became very tired and just wanted to give up on herself. I feel like if the three options you provided can't be met then those lovers who are SS shouldn't get married.

I love the sound of adoption, the only problem is a lot of people frown at it though but in all honesty, there is nothing wrong with adopting a kid.

This was an interesting read, good job!

Yeah there's nothing wrong, you will be giving a child a home and a name... The child doesn't have to come from you

You were the last to check your genotype? But why are you surprised when your parents are AA? Lol. Anyway, those were great suggestions you gave, however, like you also pointed, you need money

She put the thought of "okay what if I'm not AA" in my head 😂
