THE LIFE AFTER LIFE

The social media life is the life I love to call a life after life because whether we like it or not it only carries the version of ourselves we want people to see. Likes of Kim Kardashian and other celebrities who are always showing their lives on social media only show what they want the world to see. And whether you believe it or not their life is not 100% what you see on screen. And even though it takes a big chunk of it, it isn’t it. ANd I think this also goes for us average social media users who are still hoping to be recognized one day. There is always a limit to what we can allow to be shown about ourselves on social media.

This is why I still think Social media is not 100% the right tool to use for companies who seek to employ people. Although there are jobs I would take an exception to, especially marketing Jobs. One way to know a good marketer is by their followings and engagement online. And although it’s one way, it’s not all the ways. When it comes to social media and jobs, I don’t think it’s an invasion of privacy for a company to want to check the social media of their employees. I mean it’s social media, if the employee doesn't want anyone to see their activities, they shouldn’t bring it online.

But then again, the reason for checking an employee's social media account is what I am majorly interested in. I could choose to create content about a certain niche, and those online will see my content and think that’s everything about me, whereas, they have not even crashed the surface of things to know about me. My competence in my job at the office has nothing to do with social media. I might even have large followings and not know how to market a product because chances are that I bought those followings and I can also fake engagements with bots and all, and then you think I have good engagement so I can be a good marketer. Just so you know, almost everything on social media has the potential to be faked. And as technology advances, it becomes more challenging to know what’s true.

All I’m saying is as good as it sounds for Companies to go through their employees' social media, It can be misleading so it isn’t 100% trusted. And if I should get my dream job and my company asks for my social media handle, Well I got nothing to hide there because it’s public in the first place. But then I don’t see just ordinary firms asking for this. If it’s in the political or judicial setting, Then I can understand the need to always follow up on staff in order to monitor those who can’t filter their emotions on social media. My social media life isn’t so interesting, except for the money I make behind the scenes.

This a pretty thought out post. It's an open secret that the life on social media is sometimes mostly fake. This propagates insecurity and inferiority complexes among their followers who feel unsatisfied with their own lives in comparison.
