Splinterlands Art Contest || Captain Katie

Greetings hive community.
I've been having a little discomfort with my eyes for some days now, I haven't been able to paint any new work digitally because I have to reduce screen time but I was able to to something today. It's that time of the week again, week 254 of the splinterlands art contest and this is my submission.....

Captain Katie is a card I've recreated before, I remember my entry then featured hands and all the accessories in the original but this one doesn't. The original work is simply perfect, amazing outfit, cute smirk/smile. Just amazing....

PROCESS

As always, sketching is the first thing I do before anything else, it serves as a guide even though I usually end up adding new stuff that were never present the sketch. I then layed flat colours for her skin, hair and clothes, I already decided to use some colours from the original painting. I painted her facial features, only faced a little challenge with her nose for reasons I can't explain. Adding highlights and shadows to her skin brought the skin part of the work to life. I then painted more details and colours to her clothes, also added the rope-like stuff in front of her dress.

Her hair was the most interesting and time consuming part for me mostly because I added braids before going on to paint more strands and colours to it. I added a new layer, set it to colour dodge and added all the glow on it, her eyes, lashes, around her hair and clothes too before painting the background. I hope you love this one....

Nice stylization of her hair. I usually gets confused with black hair. This is a nice idea to add some extra stands of coloured hair in there.

Smart move :)

I understand, adding details to black hair can be hard sometimes. Thanks a lot
