Hello to all my dear friends of Hive Food! This past weekend they did an event in a supermarket called "Rattan", this supermarket has many years existing on the island, in fact it is very famous. So much so that there is a shopping center called the same way, now it is a little lonely because of the same situation of the country, but at the time it was very, very busy. People who came to the island on vacation, did not leave without visiting the supermarket and buy some cheese balls, it was something that was almost obligatory to do. At that time they sold round cheeses with a red covering that kept them fresh and were delicious, each family would take at least 3 cheeses and each one could weigh more than 1 kilo. But well, in those days in Venezuela you could do those things. Now that you know a little about the supermarket, let's talk about the event "CHEF WARS - Margarita 2023".

Hola a todos mis queridos amigos de Hive Food! Este fin de semana que pasó hicieron un evento en un Supermercado llamado “Rattan”, este supermercado tiene muchos años existiendo en la Isla, de hecho es muy famoso. Tanto así que existe un Centro Comercial llamado del mismo modo, ahora está un poco solo por la misma situación del país, pero en su momento fue muy, pero muy concurrido. La gente que llegaba a la Isla de vacaciones, no se iba sin visitar el supermercado y comprar unas bolas de queso, era algo que ya era casi que obligado hacer. En ese momento vendían unos quesos redondos con una cobertura roja que los mantenía frescos y eran deliciosos, se llevaban por lo menos 3 quesos cada familia y cada uno podría pesar más de 1 kilo. Pero bueno, en aquellos tiempo en Venezuela se podían hacer esas cosas. Ya ahora que sabes un poco del supermercado, hablemos del evento “CHEF WARS - Margarita 2023”.

The idea was that 4 teams with recognized chefs on the island would compete against each other. These teams consisted of 4 people: 3 assistants and the main chef. They were Pink, Red, Yellow and Orange. I don't know many people in Margarita, but one of the chefs, the orange team, I know because she belongs to and is in charge of an organization called "Bienestar Animal Maneiro", which is responsible for the protection of animals on the island, and also to take the necessary steps to make a local "Pet Friendly". She, besides being in charge of the animal welfare of the island, is also a Chef, her name is Virginia.

La idea era que se enfrentaran 4 equipos con chef reconocidos en la Isla. Esos equipos constaban de 4 personas: 3 ayudantes y el chef principal. Estaban el color Rosado, Rojo, Amarillo y Naranja. Yo no es que conozca a mucha gente en Margarita, pero una de las chef, la del equipo naranja la conozco porque ella pertenece y es la encargada de una organización llamada “Bienestar Animal Maneiro”, la cual se encarga de la protección de los animales en la Isla, y también de realizar las gestiones necesarias para hacer un local “Pet Friendly”. Ella, además de encargarse del bienestar animal de la isla, también es Chef, su nombre es Virginia.

The chef of the yellow team I also know who she is because I once heard a comment from a friend who told me: she is the black one who cooks very tasty! So I assume she really does it very well. The chef of the yellow and pink teams I had not seen before, but I assume they are wonderful anyway.

La chef del equipo amarillo también sé quién es porque alguna vez escuché un comentario de una amiga que me dijo: ella es la negra que cocina muy sabroso! Así que asumo que realmente lo hace muy bien. Los chef de los equipos amarillo y rosado no los había visto antes, pero asumo que de igual forma, son maravillosos.

Each team prepared a similar dish and then gave it to the jury to taste, they gave their opinion and so they continued with the next dish. Among the ones I noticed, they made "hallacas", a typical Venezuelan dish that is like a Mexican "tamale". I would have loved to be a judge, but for this moment I was just a spectator 🤣.

Cada equipo preparaba un plato igual y luego se los daba a probar al jurado, ellos daban su opinión y así continuaban con siguiente platillo. Entre los que pude notar, hicieron “hallacas”, un plato típico venezolano que es como un “tamal” mexicano. Me hubiese encantado ser jurado, pero por este momento solo fui espectadora 🤣.

The competition started at 4pm, and at the end they named the winner, being the pink team. The prize was $150 and kitchen appliances, so I know that for them, it was worth it! ❤️

La competición empezó a las 4 de la tarde, y al final nombraron al ganador, que fue el equipo rosa. El premio fue de 150 dólares y electrodomésticos de cocina, así que sé que para ellos ¡valió la pena! ❤️

Y ¿todos cocinaron hallacas? o ¿ganó la hallaca? Opino lo mismo, yo debo ser chef de alguna cosa de esas ja,ja,ja... Me alegro que esten haciendo ese tipo de competencias en el país porque nuestra comida es muy sabrosa. Gracias por compartirlo.
Todos cocinaban los mismos platos y elegían a un equipo. Pero mencioné la hallaca porque fue mi favorita 🤣 y sí, en la isla por lo menos siempre hacen cosas diferente 😬. Saludos
