After an intense weekend of knowledge assessments for a position in the Portuguese public sector, I found myself in need of a well-earned break. Where better to unwind than in a brewery? For practical reasons, I chose Golden Draak, a cozy beer haven in Parque das Nações, Lisbon.

I settled into the warm atmosphere, my mind still buzzing from the past few days of tests and lack of sleep. To celebrate the end of this mental marathon—and before leaving Lisbon—I ordered a 1784 Belgian Lager: a crisp, golden-hued beer with a delicate balance of malty sweetness and subtle bitterness. As I sat there, watching the big city pulse with the Tagus River in the background, I felt a sense of relief and quiet satisfaction. The weekend had been a challenge, but in that moment, with a great beer in hand and the hum of Lisbon’s waterfront in the background, it all felt worth it.
