A colourful snapshot of Tallinn, Estonia
A few days ago I flew into Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, from Warsaw, the capital of Poland. It's the first time I've flown with the Polish national airline LOT, and frankly speaking, after flying with budget airlines a lot in recent years, LOT actually isn't that bad. For an hourish flight I got a free drink and snack, I feel I've been upgraded!
I've been walking a lot around Tallinn since I've arrived, over 44k steps over 2.5 days that is a lot for me. Tallinn has a great mix of old and new, traditional and modern. In the Old Town, many buildings date back to the 13th century, and are lined with cobblestone roads all around. Beyond the Old Town, factories from the Soviet era is repurposed into trendy creative centres. Street art can be found all over the area here.
A bit further out is Kadriorg, one of the wealthiest areas in Estonia. The houses I saw here certainly reflects the wealth. In the 18th century Peter the Great built the Kadriorg Park and the beautiful baroque style park was definitely worth me spending the afternoon here.
From old to new again. Opposite the 18th century Kadriorg park is the Reidi Tee Promenade. The 1.7km promenade faces the Tallinn Bay and has separate walkways for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as many benches in case you get tired. Luckily the weather was still warm enough to have a lovely walk by the sea. I walked along the promenade from the Kadriorg Park passing by the ferry terminal where you can catch a two hour ferry over to Helsinki in Finland. If I was in town for another day, I'd definitely do that.
From the ferry terminal, I continued to walk back to the Old Town. Tallinn has some awesome places to eat, maybe it's influenced by it's neighbour across the bay. And finally, no travel is complete (for me) without a fridge magnet as a souvenir. The little dolls in traditional costume were all so cute, I just couldn't make up my mind which one to get. Any suggestions?
This is just a quick snapshot of my time in Tallinn and some colourful shots of the city. There's a lot more on my itinerary.... to follow.

These photos are great and you have really walked a lot. I guess you are tired haha. When I first came to Izmir, I was walking 15 thousand steps a day and I was exhausted at night XD
I'm 10 days on the road now and getting rather tired with so much walking, must be the old age kicking in 😅
I don't think it has anything to do with old age, it could just be that you are not used to walking 😅
Wow, this is a really beautiful looking town. So this was the trip that you had planned after the Hive meet up? That water bottle is pretty sweet!
Yes, Tallinn is the second stop after Krakow, one more to go after that. The water bottle was from HF last year in Amsterdam, its really handy, I'm hoping one day some stranger will see it and tell me they're on Hive as well, that will be so cool!
That would be really cool!
This place is full of charm and character. The paperboat structure is playing my childhood memories. I love the hive tumbler. 😄
Great one on noticing the paper boat structure , I thought that was a great installation outside the ferry terminal
Wow that mural looks so cool 😎
Great artworks everywhere.
Delicious food too.
Great snapshot of your travels to Tallinn 😊
That area had lots of interesting mural, one for another post. The food was surprisingly good, they have lots of good restaurants and I found some really nice food at the local market
Oh that’s cool. Looking forward to it.
Always great when the food is nice and even in the markets.
Have a great new week 👋🏻😊
I know someone from Talin, Estonia.
Wonder how is she doing now.
They say Tallinn cost of living isn't as affordable as it used to be, and I found some things were around the same price as UK, hopefully this doesn't affect your friend too much
I think all cities cannot escape this.
What a nice experience so far there, beginning with that free drink... Btw, the pictures are great, but the best for me is that of Kadriorg Park... wow! Best regards from Cuba.
Kadriorg Park is like the royal park, and is very much pleasant to walk around, I had a very nice few hours there

Wao! I am loving these pictures, they look so beautiful and attractive
Thanks!
You are welcome
Nice photos! It looks like most of the Eastern European countries and the influence of "soviet era" is very much visible...
I would pick the first two in the first row... Don't ask why... lol...
Is there more space at your fridge, or you are buying another one? 😂
I noticed the same Soviet influence in the few countries I went to, particularly the buildings, very communist and functional.
Luckily fridge magnets are pretty small, I need to go in more holidays before I can buy a new fridge 😄
LOT is almost like LUT 😋
And Hive water bottle also made it into the photo 😁
All the fridge magnets are cute, I hope you can choose one in the end 😇
Those were €5 each, rather pricey so I had to leave the cute mahnets in Tallinn in the end!
The sad reality of the tourists... we pay or stay without souvenirs hahaha
Looks like you’re having a great time and the weather isn’t too bad either.
That house is super yellow! Looks like you need sunglasses just to look at it.
The weather forecast keeps on saying it will rain, but it never did, so we got lucky in Tallinn.
Plenty of colourful nice architecture in the city, will be sharing that later on

i was thinking of visiting talin next year. How many days would you say are enough to explore it?
I was only there for three days and stayed inside Tallinn only, so it was more than enough in my opinion. Perhaps if you go outside the city, and I'm sure there are more places to visit then you can extend your stay. I always check out Pinmapple when I go away now to help plan my itinerary 😀
Yes... the one who says Estonia 😁
(hahaha... what a laugh it gave me to say this to you)
LUT, have you already collected LOT wet wipes?
I didn't understand when they shouted "I'm Estonian! I'm Estonian!" So no one came home with me
I had thought of starting a collection again, or maybe I shall start collecting something else. Let's see
🤭😂
Loving your shots, brings back happy memories for me.
Tallinn is a gorgeous city, Estonia is a wonderful country....... Do you want some pins of "windows to climb through"? 😂😂😂
Pins of windows to climb through? Now I'm intrigued 🤔
I only had a couple of days here, most likely only scratched the surface, would be nice to return to see more beyond the capital
yes, indeed, windows to climb through??? Urbex!!!! lol
yes it is fair to say the surface was only scratched!
I did 3 weeks round the island in 2021, hired a car, loved it. It is also lovely on a non-urbex outing!!!
