A VALENTINE GIFT FOR COMFORT // From yarn to heart

Valentine's is a season of love, a moment to appreciate those who have been there for you It is always a beautiful thing to put a smile on someone’s face and quite heartwarming to see that you made someone’s day by gifting them.

Prior to this day, I had planned on making some Valentine theme crochets for people around me but sometimes our plans won’t work as planned. I just couldn’t find the time to go to the market to get yarn or even the time to crochet.

The thought of making Valentine-themed crochet was slowly slipping away as my mind was occupied with other things, but luckily I came across the ‘needleworkyourvalentine’ challenge and I just found the spirit to do something.

So, I want to say thank you to the needleworkmonday community for this amazing opportunity.

As I have said, I had a few ideas for Valentine and it was just quite hard to choose between those ideas. I had ideas like pillowcases, flowers, necklaces or earrings, and keychains.. after contemplating, I decided to go with flowers.

I adore flowers and enjoy having them around. work area. I really wished I could make a lot of flowers but time didn’t permit me, so I had to go with something simple and nice.

Also, I decided to go with flowers because I would be giving it to a female. As I wouldn't be going home, I decided to give it to one of my roommates, Comfort. Though I've only recently gotten to know her, I've found her to be a wonderful soul.

She recently just joined us but we always hang out together and I believe this would be a heartwarming gift to her. I hope my gift comforts Comfort, hehe.

Let me take you through a rough process of my work.

Material needed;

• Yarns.. any colour of your choice
• Gum
• Crochet pin
• Skewers or tiny sticks
• Scissors

PROCESS

Big flower.

I started with a foundation chain for the flower. Then I made my second row using a lace-like pattern.

For my third row, I started to give it a curvy edge. And my fourth row which is my last row, I made it very curvy to give it that flowery look when curved.

For the base of the flower.

It is just like making a star but you are just making the circle a little curved instead of flattened like that of a star.

In a magic ring, double crochet the amount that would fit into your flower, then make an increase. Then you can now make the extended stitches to form that star-like shape, also form accordingly to your flower.

Small flower

I used the same idea, although a different pattern but I made just three rows for it to be small. I also made sure I added pink to the last row.

2nd row

After that, I applied gum to the right places, so it could be steady. I also attached the skewers and wrapped white yarn around it to make it presentable.

Look how nice it turned out to be…

At the point, I didn’t want to leave it like that. I wanted to try to wrapping it up to make more presentable, hehe. I know it was not something I have done before but I still wanted to give it a try with the available materials at hand.

So here is it…

I didn’t turn out so nice, lol. Not what I expected but I believe practices makes perfect. This is my first time doing this but I am sure I will try it again sometime.
