(Edited)

Happy Monday, Good morning or good day, whenever you may be my fellow needleworker, it is a pleasure to make my first post here, I am so excited to share my work here. I do crochet, but it has been a while since I picked up my needle, I’m glad that I finally did!

It has been months almost a year since I picked up my crochet hook, I have placed it on hold till next year for reason best known to me. But surprisingly, I found myself picking up my hook because I couldn’t resist not making a gift for my dog.

I’m so glad about the contest and I am happy that I have found it, in fact, it has made me pick up my crochet hook and again I can feel the comfort and warmth that crocheting gives me, and also the satisfactions appearance that comes with a project. Anything for my pet. I hardly resist.

I’m a lover of dogs, not just dogs I’m a lover of animals, domestic or wild. Although, I don’t want to get to know wild animals, hehe but I do admire their beauty. As a lover of pets, I decided to make something for my newest pet.

Dogs are companions, but to me and my family, they are literally part of the family. My family has always loved dogs, so I have come across many dogs, some died, some were gifted.. but presently, we have two dogs. But today will be about the newest; SNIPER.

Sniper is a young dog, he is about 4 months old and he has been with us since birth. He's smart and beautiful, sniper came into my life when one of our dogs gave birth.

IMG_1012.jpeg

We named him Sniper after one of our deceased dogs, he was very beloved to me and my family, and we couldn’t let the name fade away. Surprisingly he is taking after the previous sniper; he eats a lot, he barks unnecessarily, he is stubborn, he bites on anything biteable…, he just makes me smile because he reminds me of the previous one.

I decided to make a gift for him and not the other dog since he is quite young and I have not made any gifts for him. So, after so much contemplating, I decided to make a crochet collar.

IMG_5254.jpeg

Since Sniper loves eating, meat especially, sometimes, I wonder how he eats them with his small mouth I chose to crotchet a bone-shaped design, and I also decided to use bright colors as the collar due to his white skin. Without any further ado, let me take you through the process of making it.

A MINI TUTORIAL.

For the bone-shaped crotchet

I wanted to use white but since I had some cream wool with me, I chose it.

Step one: I made a foundation chain according to the size I wanted.

IMG_6085.jpegIMG_6086.jpeg

Step two: I made SC as the second layer after that I crotcheted extra chains according to the size I wanted to form the shape of a bone, I made a second layer on it, then crotchet down to form other extra chains, also I made a second layer on it and crotchet down.

IMG_6089.jpeg

Step three: I repeated the process for the other end and continued crocheting to the width I wanted.

IMG_6104.jpeg

Step four: I made two pieces of this.

IMG_6107.jpeg

Step five: I joined the two pieces using SC, while joining I felt a little space for fillings.

IMG_6110.jpeg

Step six: I didn’t want to fill in anything but it looks so flat, and I unfortunately I didn’t have stuffings at hand, so I decided to cut some black soft net as the fillings, the idea for these black fillings was to give a dark color within the little hole created but unfortunately, it didn’t turn out as I decide it to be, but it still looks good right?

IMG_6114.jpegIMG_6128.jpeg

Step seven: I fixed the crotchet wool in my needle, and I started writing with it, I chose to use typewriter fonts, so it can be easy, and voila!! that is how I achieved this cute little bone-shaped crotchet.

For the collar

As I have said before, I wanted to use bright colors because of his white skin, for this, I’ll be using purple and lilac colors. The collar is simple but nice.

IMG_6123.jpeg

Step one: make a long chain according to the size of the neck of your pet and just keep on layering. For me, I didn’t want it to be straight lines with different colors but quite irregular.

IMG_6132.jpegIMG_6134.jpegIMG_6136.jpeg

Step two: measure the width that you are pleased with and trim excess wool also tuck in any wool that is trimed.

IMG_6137.jpeg

Step three: making the hook of the collar, there are different ways to do this, some use robes but I just decided to do something different. So I made three different holes at one end, (the different holes are for adjustment) and at the other end, I made a ball, more like a button to fit in the hole.

The attachment.

It took me some time to choose between making the bone a pendant or just attaching it in the middle, but I came conclusion that I would attach it because Sniper might cut down the pendant.

IMG_6149.jpeg

Step: I passed the wool into a needle and joined both, and here is the final look!

THE LOOK ON SNIPER.

I’m very happy to do this and I hope y’all like it. It is quite simple and you can try to make one for your pet.

Abbreviation: SC - Single crochet.

Look at sniper looking so happy with his gift oh his neck. I'm certain he loved it as much as you loved making it. I like that you didn't let the name die. It can be hard letting go of out dead pet, especially ones we loved so much.

This was a really beautiful collar for sniper, Weldon dearest.
