Photofeed Contest Street Photography Round 51: Aftermath of The Rains

(Edited)

Hello all and welcome to my blog as I share this image with you as my entry to round 51 of the Street photography contest.

This image here shows one of the oldest streets in my city, Aba, Nigeria. This street called Ehere Road is usually busy because a local market is located there, also so many avenues and roads have a link to it.
Not only that it also connects directly to the major junction called Opobo junction along Aba/Ikot Ekpene Express Road.

Despite the road of the street being tarred with gutters on both sides, it suffers a big challenge of flood whenever it rains. The entire road will be flooded making it unusually difficult for people and vehicular movement. You can see the level of flood in the image.

This image was captured while I was in a vehicle passing through the street on one of the days it rained.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Please do leave a comment.

Image is mine and it's right reserve

The state of our roads can be so pathetic especially if it rains. This is sad.

It really is, most people find it difficult to access their roads when it reigns. We hope something will be done about it soon.

Is the Abia state government asleep, why are they allowing a major road to deteriorate...hmm it's well

The road is tarredbbut the major challenge is that the drainages aren't wide and deep enough to contain the flow of water coupled with people's wicked act of dumping refuse inside the gutters especially when it rains which now block the waterways making it to overflow into the roads.

Government is doing its best but people's attitude is the problem

That's fine .....is there a way that awareness about t he e effects of dumping refuse can be passed across. Or can a law be passed to stop these wicked acts and punishment be meted out to law breakers who refuse to desist?

I am concerned because this is my late mom's state and that particular road lead to my dad's town ikot ekpene. I a not happy with it's state till now.

Thanks

The government is doing that already but you know people are usually difficult to control. Hopefully things will improve.

Oh, Ikot-Ekpene is a beautiful place, I've been there several time. I lived in Uyo before relocating to Aba.

Infrastructure is not great in Nigeria? Is this a large town or more rural?

This is just a street in a city and it has a quite number of people residing and doing business there.
