SMAP Contest Round 163 - Birds Of A Feather!

(Edited)

Hello feathered friends trust you are doing great. It's another week again for us to share our feathered photos and good a thing our nelliova was kind enough to give us a free theme this time around.

I'll be sharing photos of these birds which I captured today along my street - Stallion Road, Aba, Nigeria, as I was walking home

I don't know if I'm right or wrong but these birds look like the "black phoebe". Thought it was only females that bear the name phoebe, didn't know birds do too, hehehe.
Just like I said I'm not so sure if they are actually what I think and I wouldn't mind you telling me which they are if you do have an idea.

That non withstanding, there are quite some things to note about the black phoebe so that you can easily recognize them when you see them. Grey or sooty black body and white belly, long tails plus short beaks. They thrive around humans that's why you can see them easily walking around your compound picking insects to feed. They can equally build nests under the eaves of a building.
Finally if you hear a shrill, scratchy chirp around you, just know that it's the black phoebe because that's how they call out to each other.

I has just finished capturing this one when the second bird perched at the other side of the electricity cable

You can see them up there on the electric cables. I actually took the shots with my phone and I had to zoom in so I can get closer shots but even at that, they aren't so clear - this is the time having a camera comes in very much handy.

It seems like the one on the right noticed that I was capturing them as it changed its position to side view for a nice shot, lol.

Now it's looking down, I can bet that it knew that I was there, hehehe.

Here one of them left it's position and moved to perch on the pole itself nearer the other one.

Snapped this one from another angle.

Thank you for reading, I hope to write here again and would love to see you.

Still the #threadsaddict 😂

Nice shots of these birds. There are always some to perch on wires, wherever you look. 🙂

They look like doves... 😅 I am a bird watching enthusiast, but this requires equipment and also a looot of patience.

Doves, looks like it too, 😂
like I said before I don't know which they were exactly, hehehehe.
Patience is indeed needed, was secretly filming some on Sunday and immediately they saw me off they flew.
Thanks for your contribution

What a nice name for a bird, Phoebe. Well, I don't know their names, I just can identify them as wither eagle, dove etc.
Having a nice camera is the best to bring out a clearer shot of a picture.

It is fun to watch birds. In urban landscape my favorite in daytime used to be crows when I was in Bombay. Alas i don't see a lot of crows here in Pune, though I see all other kinds of birds from time to time. The more fun birds we see are parrots and even a couple of peacocks once.
My other favorite are bats, especially at twilight when they take flight. I used to have a lot of bats where i lived in Bombay and there were some in Pune too, but concrete jungles are winning and their habitat is losing out now.

Cheers from a fellow #dreemerforlife

That's quite some birds you've seen. There are many of them here but the challenge is knowing most of their names. I see lots of bats too especially in the evenings, they move in their hundreds.

i agree. Even i don't know the names of birds outside of parrots and sparrows and crows. Maybe very impactful looking ones like peacock and Eagle i can recognize. but the small and medium ones are very difficult to tell apart for me. I envy how the birders do it :)

Well, you made me Google this one hehe. I've not heard of a Black Phoebe before. It seems it is a songbird. But these birds still look like doves to me haha... although I can see the white belly that you mention which is characteristic of the Black Phoebe so who knows... I certainly didn't think I'd be trying to figure this out this evening !LOLZ ... Maybe next time you will be lucky and they will land a bit closer for a better photo opp! I saw your post through Dreemport this evening. !PIZZA

You did Googled it, lol.

I certainly didn't think I'd be trying to figure this out this evening !

Well doing so has added to your knowledge of birds. They're still cool being doves, hehehe.

I did try filming two of them on Sunday but on noticing my presence they flew away. 😅

I am a sucker for birds and spend many a moment watching them and photographing them.

You know though, the wires how come they never get electrocuted!

I know right. Birds are interesting creatures to watch but one needs to be very fast while capturing them.

You know though, the wires how come they never get electrocuted!

I heard they have anti electrocuting stuff under their feet.
