It is very common in Nigeria for a girl child to cut her hair very short, people believe it makes her look smarter and to even concentrate on her studies, other parents cut their child's hair because the child might have complained of pains while getting braids.

When I was in primary school all girls had to cut their hair as braids were not allowed and short hairs were considered neater and would allow students concentrate. Yes, most schools do not allows long hair or braids for their students. So throughout my Primary school I cut my hair real short, sometimes I was even teased of looking like a boy lol!

Before I got admitted to secondary I told my mom I'll start making my hair that she should put me in a school that will accept making of braids for secondary, well she agreed to it. She would braid my hair herself but sometimes I had schoolmates do it, visiting the hair salon was on special occasions.
I grew my hair in 2014 until 2019 when I finished my secondary school then I had it cut but not voluntarily!

After my secondary school in 2019 I went to live with my aunt and their first project for my hair was to cut it! Well according to them, no one will be paying for your braids here, it is too expensive! I had to accept my fate like that but I didn't like the style they always chose for me because it was too short.

But I finally got my freedom to grow my hair after learning my sewing skill and I could pay for my own braids, and then I started growing my hair again and that was just in 2022 and after I came home to my mom I was doing a lot of styling and not spending much because I have friends here who can braid hair.

Now I enjoy the freedom of having whatever style of braids I want and would I want to cut my hair? Nah!
Cutting my hair is not what I think of doing anytime, I even want my hair to grow more longer.
I think our weather or genetics doesn't allow us to have long hairs as in other countries so I know what limit my hair will grow to. Here are a few styles I've done with my hair:

Having a beautiful hairstyle gives me so much confidence as a girl.

But I've seen many adult women who have chosen to cut theirs, some because the hair makes them feel heat others to reduce cost, this decision is personal for everyone. I've had my days of short hairs, now I don't want to have it again!

I cut my hair throughout secondary school, it was compulsory, I was even mistaken for a boy 😭. I couldn't wait to graduate then so I could make my hair 😂

Cutting actually makes students more serious I guess 😂

The pain is real, my uniform then was shirt and skirt, so it was so easy 😂

but when you don't have to plait your hair every weekend, you have more time to read, I guess

It's good you have grown your hair longer and can braid it in any way you like. You're right, we have different reasons for either keeping our hair short or long. And there's nothing wrong as long as we are happy with our choices :)

THank you !LADY

The beauty of having long hair is that you can always put it up into a style to mimich having short hair, but it's not permanent! I'm glad you have your choice of what you wish to do now. Thanks for sharing and have a lovely day!
