Cada año de enero trabajo en el presupuesto de mi hogar y mi reciente paseo por un importante centro comercial me recuerda cómo nuestras metas financieras pueden verse socavadas por la tentación de gastar.

I annually work on my home budget every January and my recent walk through of a major shopping center reminds me how our financial goals can get undermined by the temptation to spend.
What are your strategies and tactics to stay on track?
Para nadie es un secreto que enero es un mes difícil por el hecho de seguirle a diciembre, un mes de gastos en el que es imposible ahorrar dinero por todo lo que requiere llevar a cabo la celebración de las fiestas navideñas, al menos por mi parte en diciembre me olvido de ahorrar porque esta época es solo una vez al año y me gusta disfrutarla al máximo, así que aprovecho de comprar todo lo que necesito para preparar la comida navideña, los estrenos, los regalos y cualquier gasto extra que salga por allí, pero una vez que entramos en enero volvemos a la realidad y es necesario organizarnos para sobrevivir a este mes tan largo y difícil.
It is a secret to no one that January is a difficult month because it follows December, a month of expenses in which it is impossible to save money due to everything that is required to celebrate the Christmas holidays, at least on my part In December I forget to save because this time is only once a year and I like to enjoy it to the fullest, so I take advantage of buying everything I need to prepare Christmas food, premieres, gifts and any extra expenses that arise there. , but once we enter January we return to reality and it is necessary to organize ourselves to survive this long and difficult month.
En casa soy yo la encargada de llevar las finanzas y eso implica llevar un control de los gastos que hacemos. Por mi parte lo que hago es elaborar una pequeña lista en mi celular donde voy anotando las cosas que hacen falta en casa, con esto me refiero a alimentos y víveres que es lo más esencial para mí en cuanto a gastos y cuando salimos a hacer las compras me guio con mi lista para recordar lo que necesito pero siempre dándole prioridad a lo más necesario. Normalmente hacemos nuestras compras en el mismo supermercado de siempre pero de ser necesario compramos ciertos artículos en otros establecimientos mientras nos ayude a ahorrar algo de dinero, es decir, ¿para qué comprar algo a un precio elevado cuando podemos conseguir el mismo artículo en otro lugar a un mejor precio?
At home I am in charge of managing the finances and that means keeping track of the expenses we make. For my part, what I do is make a small list on my cell phone where I write down the things I need at home. By this I mean food and groceries, which is the most essential for me in terms of expenses and when we go out to do things. Shopping guides me with my list to remember what I need but always giving priority to what is most necessary. Normally we do our shopping in the same supermarket as always but if necessary we buy certain items in other establishments as long as it helps us save some money, that is, why buy something at a high price when we can get the same item somewhere else at a better price?
Por supuesto siempre está la tentación de comprar ciertas cosas que aunque no son necesarias las queremos y si tenemos el dinero en mano son mayores las ganas de adquirirlo, pero, en mi caso pienso primero si no se necesita algo más que pueda comprar con ese dinero, algo más útil y esencial y de ser así me resisto de comprar algo que quiero para poder gastarlo en algo que necesito. Es una batalla interna muy difícil, pero por suerte siempre la gano por el bien de mi bolsillo.
Por otro lado debo decir que no siempre me abstengo de hacer ciertas compras, es decir, tampoco vivo privándome de comprar algo que quiero y deseo mucho, solo me propongo ahorrar un poco de dinero y una vez que logre tenerlo me dispongo a hacer una compra para mí, siempre y cuando no haya que hacer un gasto más importante que ese. Normalmente siempre que gasto dinero en mi me cuestiono mucho sobre si debí hacer esa compra pero al final yo misma termino convenciéndome de que en definitiva lo merezco porque también debo pensar en mí y no solo en los gastos de mi hogar, merecemos también invertir en nosotros siempre y cuando no se trate de vanidades o gastos sin sentido.
Of course there is always the temptation to buy certain things that, although they are not necessary, we want them and if we have the money in hand, the desire to acquire them is greater, but, in my case, I first think about whether something else is needed that I can buy with that money. , something more useful and essential and if so I resist buying something I want so I can spend it on something I need. It is a very difficult internal battle, but luckily I always win it for the sake of my pocketbook.
On the other hand, I must say that I do not always refrain from making certain purchases, that is, I do not live depriving myself of buying something that I want and desire very much, I only propose to save a little money and once I manage to have it I prepare to make a purchase For me, as long as I don't have to make a more important expense than that. Normally, whenever I spend money on myself, I question myself a lot about whether I should have made that purchase, but in the end I end up convincing myself that ultimately I deserve it because I also have to think about myself and not just about my household expenses, we also deserve to invest in ourselves. as long as it is not about vanities or meaningless expenses.

Odd as it may seem, I begin my Christmas shopping right of way so I need not have to rush in the end, except on those months that I expect my annual large Tax and Insurance bills. You have a good strategy and when you achieve your objectives and have some funds leftover, then you can decide to treat yourself OR put that into a savings knowing that choice will not jeopardize things down the road. The important thing is that you are confident and empowered.
that's an excellent one, as long as the expense you make brings value to you, i would say its worth it. the value could be joy or something.
Exactly, that's my way of thinking. We also deserve to treat ourselves and spend a little on ourselves, as long as there is nothing more important to spend the money on.
Finding that balance can indeed be a challenging but rewarding internal struggle, and it's wonderful that you manage to make good and mindful choices for the sake of financial well being

I guess we all deserve to spend some pennies on ourselves, there's nothing wrong with that. Just don't be too extravagant. There are more necessary things than desires.
