My summer magic is almost always circumstantial


For me, vacation plans have been a challenging journey, the difficulty has always been there, due to the unpredictable nature of my professional practice. As a physician, my schedule is often unexpected and very versatile, coupled with my specialty, which is infrequent, placing a higher demand.

When I was little, Mom was the organizer par excellence of family vacation plans, meticulous and measured, careful and zealous in the details, she usually didn't miss a thing and rarely gave a chance for an eventuality. I, her faithful collaborator, her main assistant. They were exquisite days of rest, relaxing and comforting, worthy of digging into memory to remember and relive.

As expected, I distanced myself from the extended family's vacation plans. I began to plan summer vacations for my small family, but I mistakenly failed many times, because I idealized them with unrealistic and unattainable goals, I was obfuscated and disappointed when at the last moment the plans were squandered by some last-minute eventuality, I was overcome with a disappointment difficult to manage and so I transmitted it to my loved ones.


Finally, the moment came, for the benefit of all, that I accepted how wrong I was, insistently adding to the past and wasting the present, persistently and inquisitively overloading myself, limiting myself, and limiting others. I decided to value and use time properly, not as a quantity but as a quality, to live it and feel it as a gift of life, which was escaping by not taking advantage of it. There was the sustenance and the moral, time well spent is happiness, comfort, health, and well-being.

For us as a family, restful relaxation and quality time off will always be at the top of our priorities, because they recover us from daily demands and boost our positive energies. What we value most are our short periods of free time, no matter how appropriate to the circumstances. In particular, we do not like to be in crowded places. On the contrary, we prefer small and sparsely populated communities, we are pleased to fully enjoy the whims of nature and its beautiful ancestral wisdom.

In the Venezuelan plains, we have a very special place, provided by friends, when we need it, a farm with a modest house, fruit trees, and nature everywhere. It smells of tranquility, of disconnection, of wisdom. These are moments of walks and strolls, of perceptive reconfigurations, interacting with a plurality of sounds, smells, and colors, which hoist the exquisite harmony of inequality in heterogeneity, which is only possible in Mother Earth. The sunrises and sunsets are a spectacle, worthy of praise, the horizon is adorned with the rainbow of colors that stand out in the sky. Undoubtedly it is our special place. I hope that this year everything flows in sync and we can escape, even if only for a few days, it will be pleasant, and enriching... the last time we were there was four years ago.

Para mí, los planes de vacaciones han sido todo un desafío, la dificultad siempre ha estado presente, debido a la naturaleza impredecible de mi ejercicio profesional. Como médico, mi horario es a menudo inesperado y muy versátil, unido a mi especialidad, que es poco frecuente, lo que supone una mayor demanda.

Cuando era pequeña, mamá era la organizadora por excelencia de los planes vacacionales familiares, meticulosa y comedida, cuidadosa y celosa en los detalles, no solía escapársele nada y casi nunca daba oportunidad a una eventualidad. Yo, su fiel colaboradora, su principal ayudante. Eran días exquisitos de descanso, relajantes y reconfortantes, dignos de escarbar en la memoria para recordar y revivir.

Como era de esperar, empecé a distanciarme de los planes de vacaciones de la familia extendida. E inicié la planificación de las vacaciones de verano para mi pequeña familia, pero erróneamente fracasé muchas veces, porque las idealicé con metas poco realistas e inalcanzables, me ofuscaba y decepcionaba cuando en el último momento los planes se dilapidaban por alguna eventualidad de última hora, me invadía una decepción difícil de gestionar y así se lo transmitía a mis seres queridos.


Finalmente, llegó el momento, en beneficio de todos, en que acepté lo equivocada que estaba, añadiendo insistentemente al pasado y desperdiciando el presente, sobrecargándome persistente e inquisitivamente, limitándome a mí misma y limitando a los demás. Decidí valorar y utilizar adecuadamente el tiempo, no como cantidad, sino como cualidad, vivirlo y sentirlo como un regalo de la vida, que se me escapaba por no aprovecharlo. Ahí estaba el sustento y la moraleja, el tiempo bien empleado es felicidad, comodidad, salud y bienestar.

Para nosotros, como familia, el descanso reparador y el tiempo libre de calidad siempre estarán en lo más alto de nuestras prioridades, porque nos recuperan de las exigencias diarias y potencian nuestras energías positivas. Lo que más valoramos son nuestros breves periodos de tiempo libre, por muy adecuados que sean a las circunstancias. En particular, no nos gusta estar en lugares abarrotados, al contrario, preferimos las comunidades pequeñas y poco pobladas, nos complace disfrutar plenamente de los caprichos de la naturaleza y de su hermosa sabiduría ancestral.

En los llanos venezolanos, tenemos un lugar muy especial, proporcionado por amigos, cuando lo necesitamos, una finca con una casa modesta, árboles frutales y naturaleza por todas partes. Huele a tranquilidad, a desconexión, a sabiduría. Son momentos de paseos y caminatas, de reconfiguraciones perceptivas, interactuando con una pluralidad de sonidos, olores y colores, que enarbolan la exquisita armonía de la desigualdad, en la heterogeneidad, que solo es posible en la madre tierra. Los amaneceres y atardeceres son un espectáculo, digno de elogio, el horizonte se engalana con el arco iris de colores que resaltan en el cielo. Sin duda es nuestro lugar especial, espero que este año todo fluya en sincronía y podamos escaparnos, aunque sea por unos días, será agradable y placentero, enriquecedor... la última vez que estuvimos fue hace cuatro años.

I can relate to the fact how the desire to be perfect in the execution of our plans make them a failure. Life circumstances are not in our control always. If we sre not flexible with pur plans, we are seldom able to execute them.

I have realized that it is better to take the advantage of available time in the present than to wait for a particular time to come in the future...... it is likely to come with its own eventuality.

I am an example of what happens when we insist on a perfection that deep down is chimerical, we transit in the heterogeneity of chaos, everything changes, everything mutates, and hability is to navigate in the waves and flow with them. Fortunately, life as it shakes you gives you the teaching of experiences and with it, I have been letting go and at the same time finding the goodness of the circumstances, feeling more plenitude in learning.

What if when it arrives those who should be there are not there?

It reminded me of something.
We had constructed a new kitchen in our house. I was so happy. I wanted to ask my father to visit my home and see how the kitchen looked.

At that time I was pregnant of 7 months. Instead of inviting my father, I thought he will visit my home when I will have the baby. I would show the kitchen to him at that time........ but what happened, just a monrh later, an unknown disease took my father's life within 3 days.

The anticipated time came but it lacked the presence of my father.

Living life fully means to live in present, making the most of the given moment. Future is a mystery....

I would like to live in a place like this, with so much goodness and energy, a true elixir for the senses. These images are from the farm where we were four years ago. The current reality is that I live in a turbulent and hectic city, where I work in a Hospital and at the University training future doctors. But all is not lost, I am interested in seeking this exquisite and comforting calm in the future, trying not to arrive too late to enjoy it to the fullest.

Over years of our sons growing up we took regular breaks to new venues to give them a feel of the country, be in nature away from city life as often as possible. Enjoy your weekend!

We planned to go away quite regularly enjoying outdoor life, camping, parks board establishments eventually established holiday accommodation when the children were growing up. It really doesn't matter how you go, it is making sure to take proper breaks to spend quality time with the family.
