A Black and White Walk Through Nigrán

A few days ago, on a trip to Bayona with a friend and her mother, we made a short stop in an area of Nigrán, it was a gray, cold and quite windy day, but that was the best thing because it gave the atmosphere a very special air. The clouds, thick and gray, covered the sky like a lead blanket, the landscape asked me to portray it and what better than in black and white to capture such a monochromatic day.

Something that caught my attention was a small and ancient Roman bridge called Puente de la Ramallosa which dates from the thirteenth century. I think it's the first time I've walked over such an ancient structure, I wonder how many soldiers passed over these stones in those times. I crouched down to take some pictures very close to the ground, focusing on the stones that form the path, because I love how those details look in this kind of photography. The textures, the marks of time, the gaps between stone and stone, everything seemed to tell a story.

One of the photos I liked the most is the one where you can see, on one side, the Roman bridge, and on the other, a modern bridge. In the center, some buildings: the past and the present sharing space. I thought it was a beautiful metaphor without looking for it and I only noticed it when I saw the photo to share it here.

I also took pictures of the entire bridge, trying to capture its shape and presence. Nearby there was a small chapel, simple but charming, and not far away an old boat, already almost destroyed by the ravages of time, abandoned on the shore of the beach. That image transmitted something special to me, something like a kind of silent nostalgia.

Of course, I couldn't miss a few shots of the beach. The sea was rough and the horizon was lost in the clouds. It wasn't a long walk, just part of the way to our final destination, but I had some time and took these images that I feel like sharing with you today. I hope you like them!

Hace unos días, en una escapada hacia Bayona con una amiga y su madre, hicimos una pequeña parada en una zona de Nigrán, era un día gris, frío y con bastante viento, pero eso fue lo mejor ya que le dio al ambiente un aire muy especial. Las nubes, espesas y grises, cubrían el cielo como una manta de plomo, el paisaje me pedía que lo retratara y que mejor que en blanco y negro para plasmar un día tan monocromático.

Algo que me llamó la atención era un pequeño y antiguo puente romano llamado Puente de la Ramallosa el cual data del siglo XIII. Creo que es la primera vez que camino sobre una estructura tan antigua, me pregunto cuantos soldados pasaron sobre estas piedras en esos tiempos. Me agaché para hacer algunas fotos bien cerca del suelo, enfocando las piedras que forman el camino, porque me encanta cómo se ven esos detalles en este tipo de fotografía. Las texturas, las marcas del tiempo, los huecos entre piedra y piedra, todo parecía contar una historia.

Una de las fotos que más me gustó es en la que se ve, de un lado, el puente romano, y del otro, un puente moderno. En el centro, algunos edificios: el pasado y el presente compartiendo espacio. Me pareció una metáfora hermosa sin querer buscarla y que solo lo noté cuando ví la fotografía para compartirla aquí.

También tomé fotos del puente entero, intentando capturar su forma y presencia. Muy cerca había una pequeña capilla, sencilla pero encantadora, y no muy lejos una vieja lancha, ya casi deshecha por los estragos del tiempo, abandonada en la orilla de la playa. Esa imagen me transmitió algo especial, algo como una especie de nostalgia silenciosa.

Por supuesto, no podían faltar unas cuantas tomas de la playa. El mar estaba revuelto y el horizonte se perdía en las nubes. No fue una gran caminata, apenas una parte del trayecto hacia nuestro destino final, pero tuve algo de tiempo y tomé estas imágenes que hoy me apetece compartir con ustedes. Espero les guste!
