Water Experience in Rise of the Ronin (Early Gameplay)
Hi there! Welcome to my gaming photography blog. This time, I'm joining the Gaming Photography Weekly Contest again, and the theme is Water Experience. You can find more details about the contest [here]. The more people join, the more fun it gets!
Previously, I often took screenshots from Ghost of Tsushima, but for this theme, I’ll try something new with my latest game, Rise of the Ronin. After finishing the first mission, I landed on the first map, Honmoku. I got lucky because when I opened the map, I saw rivers, waterfalls, and the sea—perfect spots for water-themed shots!
In the middle of Honmoku, I discovered a calm and beautiful river that really gave me a sense of peace. It was a great find, thanks to this theme that made me focus on water-related scenery. The vibe felt like a quiet, serene village. The people seemed to depend on the river, and even a structure resembling a blacksmith's workshop run on a big waterwheel whirling from the river's flow. Searching for more breathtaking views, I roamed around the village till at the outskirts I stumbled upon a waterfall. Though nothing special about it—that is, no hidden treasures, unfortunately.
I then kept riding horses in exploration. As the horse rushed across the little river, I enjoyed in how its hooves created splashes. I then turned towards the sea and started taking shots along. Like in real life, the river running into the sea seemed really realistic. The game pays amazing attention to detail.
From the edge of the village, I enjoyed the vast and calming view of the sea. Some small boats were docked on the sandy shore, showing the simple life of the villagers. While riding my horse along the beach, admiring the hoofprints in the sand, I was suddenly ambushed by enemies. A beachside battle with the ocean as the backdrop, I said what a golden opportunity for photography!
During the fight, I really pushed my photo mode skills to the limit. Over time, I felt I was getting better at capturing the action. However, I must admit, the photo mode in this game is trickier to use compared to Ghost of Tsushima. But hey, practice makes perfect! I’ve included some screenshots of the beachside battle here. I think they fit the contest theme well, highlighting water splashes from sword strikes and the fluid motion of the fight in the water. It was such a rewarding experience for me!
While exploring the beach and sea, I found a floating boat. So, I swam to it (yes, you can swim fast and even dive underwater in this game), and I decided to show off my new Western-style gun and outfit that I got from defeating some Western enemies.
I also learned something unique while diving in the sea. If you stay underwater too long, you’ll run out of oxygen and die. But before that happens, you can explore the seabed and enjoy the underwater scenery. Even though the underwater visuals are a bit blurry in the screenshots, it’s still a cool discovery. I’ve included a few underwater shots too.
That’s all for today! There’s so much more to explore in this game, but I’m taking it slow. I decided to stop at Yamate (next to Honmoku) for now. The enemies in Yamate are stronger, and I’m not ready to face them yet. Thank you for reading and for supporting my screenshot work. Have a great day, and good luck!
I like how the game manages to capture the fights on the water; those scenes were my favorite.
I totally agree! The way the game shows water battles is stunning!
