Suitable Dressing Styles For Cycling Comfortability
In my mind right now, I think I'll be the best cyclist there is in many aspects by the time I get my own bike π and this because of the stuffs I've learned since I started researching about the world of Cycling. I'm yet to research on what it takes to get and own a bike in my environment because I'm not so stable in one area yet until I'm done with my service year.
Last week, I shared some mid-nutrition ideas I learnt for cyclists and like I didn't share specific meals to eat while cycling, I'll also be sharing without specific examples, some dressing styles or wears to stay comfortable during cycling.

Even in the world of Cycling, there is also the fashion trend, wrong dressing and staying in comfort while at it. So there is the need to remind old cyclists or teach new cyclists the importance of suitable or comfortable dressing in cycling. I did some questioning with my dad some years ago when I saw an old pic of him and his bicycle.
It turns out that cycling have been there since long ago but it was mainly used as a means for transportation, dad said not only the rich could afford it then as his family wasn't so bouyant but got his own bike when he became a teenager as a gift from grand dad.
I was curious about how they ride bikes back then if modest dressing was at the order of fashion then and dad would talk at length how they didn't find the big wears uncomfortable to ride their bikes. I came across this picture while I was finding some cycling wears and I'm wondering again.
How comfortable enough can these wears be on a bike? but then, I remind myself that before cycling, an individual have wears that they are comfortable with. It may be a bit difficult to use such wears to ride at first but some find comfort with it eventually because it is their kind of wears. So I won't be surprised to see a Nigerian guy riding a bike with his native wear like Agbada (or maybe I'll be surprised a little lol).
Regardless of culture, modest wears and what is comfortable for any individual, there are suitable and recommended wears for anyone when they want to go cycling. Of course, it also depends on the occasion of riding... For fun, adventure, commuting to work or school, for competitions and a lot of other purposes.
For work or school, it's obviously going to be what is accepted at your work place or school but as a cyclist, it's a must to have some cycling wears like Helmet.
My dad said he would always prefer to go to the farm with his bike but his sisters had to walk down because they didn't think it was okay to ride on a bike as a female with their wears. I know they were modest in dressing but I guess there's more to why they preferred walking down to the farm.
Commuting to work on your bike could be both comfortable and uncomfortable depending on what you are wearing, and so it's best for cyclists to be more considerate in their dressing when they decide to go to work on their bike.
Like you see in that picture above, it would be easy for him as a guy but for ladies, I'd say they have more to worry for on what to wear so they could ride to their work place and so it's kinda rare here to see a lady go to work on bike.
One thing every cyclist have in common in their dressing is, having an helmet.
Riding for personal routines or fun or competition or for adventure purposes, there are wears you should have for a comfortable ride on your bike and here are a few of them.
- An Helmet
- Warmer bike shorts or knickers.
- Long sleeve summer cycling jersey.
- Light wind vest or jacket.
- Socks.
- Cycling gloves.
- Headband or a cap (optional).
- A Tool box.
- Leg wear or shoes.
And some other things I've seen bike owners use.
The helmet is for the head protection in case of a fall or accident which no one prays but prepare for. I read somewhere that it isn't advisable to wear your helmet on a cap but I can't seem to understand that, I mean, why not? Wouldn't that provide more protection to the head in case of a fall?
Well, that's how far I know about cycling as regards to dressing. Let me know what you think about females dressing and commuting with bikes to work, I'm curious about that.

For us women, it is not suitable for us to make use of skirts or long gowns to ride on bikes π.
I believe joggers and trousers will do the perfect work for us to enjoy the experience on the bike
Haha what about work places that requires more of skirts and long gowns? π€£

beautifully captures the essence of dressing for cycling, it is important wear comfortable and safety wears while pedaling away. It's insightful to consider the challenges faced by both male and female cyclists in choosing suitable attire, especially for commuting.
