Stories Of Terrorism And Banditry. #iucontest 17

Hello, everyone. Welcome to another week of engagement with #iucontest. The prompt for this week is about the safety of our country. The contest can be found here

Talking about the safety of my country, Nigeria, one could be positive while another could be negative. There have been cases of insecurity and terrorism. We have experienced the trauma of Boko Haram and the Fulani Herdsmen. But in spite of this, I still believe that Nigeria is safe

My country is safe. Yes, it is safe because if it is not safe I would not be able to sit down and write this content or do any other thing. Nigeria is my country. The stories coming from Nigeria are not new or alien to many people in the world. It is a well known fact that there are a handful of insecurity terrorizing our country.

I titled this post as Stories Of Terrorism And Banditry. Yes there have been several stories and tales of insecurity in our country. For more than 10 years now, we have been battling with terrorism from the Islamic extremist called Boko Haram and other sects. When we were already plagued by the troubles from Boko Haram, the Fulani Herdsmen trouble started. Many villagers have been displaced and there have been a series of kidnappings of school children and women.

Many of these troubles we are experiencing were politically instigated. The opposing political classes brought most of these bandits and harmed them to cause problems for their opponents. After they have achieved their goal of getting power by all means, those boys they harmed with weapons went into the community causing much trouble for the citizenry.

Just like every other country, the Nigerian insecurity problem is being addressed. Their havoc is being minimized in recent times. The rate at which the Fulani Herdsmen attack has reduced since the new government came in. Farmers are no longer being terrorized as before.

So, answering this question from @indiaunited on the #iucontest, I would say that Nigeria is safe. Whatever news that is making the rounds in social media and other channels should be treated as mere stories. We are safe in the country. There could be some spots where there are some problem but the greater picture is that the country is safe.

My brother, we want to believe everything is okay but it is not. The farmers in some communities are afraid to go to their farms. Just last month, a pregnant woman was raped in front of the husband by several Fulani herdsmen, she went into premature labour after the ordeal, gave birth to a baby that was thrown to their dogs. Both husband and wife were still stabbed to death by these bastards. Horrorful right? Can you even begin to imagine such terror?

We know and witness all these things. Things are not okay but God will help us.
