Does the background matter?
Anja is a very peculiar bird.
Just look at her and you will see that we don't find many of these.
She is 8 meters tall; yes, it is an outstanding height for a grey heron, but that is not the only feature that makes her different. Anja is made of chrome and reflects the colours she is surrounded by.
Although she has been looking over the river Danube since 2010, many people still don't understand her. I've heard people walk past her and claim they don't know what this piece of art represents. The artist Nikola Simijanović had an idea which became reality with the help of the local locksmiths. Even my father-in-law participated in the process of making Anja. But when she was placed in this spot it became a topic of discussion. You know, it happens in small communities and towns.
Anyway, Anja (originally written in Serbian as Ања) stands here, still, enduring the cold of winters and stifling heat of summers. Every single day there are people that pass by her side as this is the beginning of the promenade. When we visit this town, we also walk here before we get to the city centre.
On the other side of the pavement, there is a little board explaining that the blueness of the sky contributes to the unique experience of this open-air sculpture. Yes, we should see the importance of the background to understand the art. For example, we don't see the sculpture in the same way when the sky is clear, adorned with a few white fluffy clouds as when there are grey and threatening clouds that bring a heavy, dramatic storm. If we would touch the sculpture we would also notice the difference. When the sun comes out it heats up her whole chrome body and at very high temperatures it tends to soften.
How important is it to see the whole picture, both in life and in art, right? When we leave behind the promenade and the river we can continue a pleasant walk in the city centre. There are many pieces of contemporary art to be found. This sculpture, for example. I would dare to say that the light and the shadows play a huge role in experiencing any artistic creation.
Could we see art in a piece of metal? Does it depend on it position, colour, light, and shadow it gives? If we combine it with a mural, does it change its message?
Who lives in block XI, apartment no. 5? Let's say an artist, which could mean any person with the ability to see, create, to place in his mind the pieces that nature and humans offer and make a puzzle of them. Create, change, feel, adapt, adjust, think, transmit. Look through a small circle window sometimes.
Or through the bars of a window. Well, in this concrete case, the artist can see outside the bars too. Notice the change in the background too, the soil and green grass that accompanies our walk now.
A group of metal sheets, actually people, who walk with us today for Hive. I heard them talking:
Hurry, let's jump on this elevated saucer, a UFO, and fly high into the sky so the dogs can't catch us. They are running in the background, don't you see them?
No worries. They changed their mind and are just happily running around, in freedom, in this green area. Moreover, we don't need to give them a special meaning. It is enough to recognize the consonance of natural and artistic forms that do not interfere with each other. They just complement each other making this public green space a unique whole.
There are those who would just stay in one place and observe, contemplating the natural elements around their rusty bodies. Forming part of a contemporary art installation.
Death as a part of art?
...
It's better we continue our Wednesday Walk and get closer to the last block of the sculptures. 😁
In the depths of the park, we can notice a few colourful shapes. Maybe these works are experienced in full expression only if we know how to look carefully. Also, their meaning and our experience of them are constantly changing.
Depending on the weather conditions, as well as our mood, the flow of people in the park, walkers or those who may rest next to these sculptures, we can see different things.
Maybe this can represent praying hands. A hug? A broken letter? Balance? Contrast? Anything, but here my walk should continue and if I get here the next time I can observe them again.
honestly saying i never seen a post so nicely drafted on different art pieces that we usually pass through in our daily life....inspired me to look around such thing when i make to the city
Well, thank you very much, @steemflow
I am happy if this post inspired you, art can do it 😇
Art talks I know...my daughter taught me this
Wow these art works are really beautiful. This just resonates with what I just talked about the impact of Art to our society. The beauty art adds to the environment is everything. Thanks for sharing.
This is somehow a mixture between the natural elements we see in a city and some artistic expressions. I was happy to see that combinations :))
I love a lot "Ања" ;)... 8 meters of art!!!... WOW!
And I love seeing those works of art outdoors... It's unfortunate, but in my town we are "light years away" from being able to have that kind of things... Here vandalism destroys everything that is put on the street unfortunately... :(
Nice post @mipiano friend!... Thanks for sharing!...

Sorry to hear about the vandalism. Actually, it exists everywhere... but some people choose to practice it and others don't. We should defend the side where vandalism stays in the minority :)

Hello dear friend @mipiano, good afternoon.
I have never seen a bird as big as this, what a beautiful representation of a heron.
How many significant and strange works are left to the free will of people to interpret according to their beliefs, customs, ingenuity or, as you say, state of mind.
I appreciate that you introduced us to the art there.
have a great afternoon
The magic of arts, right? To interpret the works in our own way, as it indeed depends on our view too. Thank you, and have a good afternoon you too :)

Ha, ha, ha, ha. There are some great pieces that could mean tons of things according to what we know and our backgrounds. I love the flying saucer reference with the Hive nod. People run from opportunities. But you didn't miss yours to make laugh at all these descriptions.
The painting in the wall reminds of this Looney Tunes cartoon of the coyote chasing the roadrunner. It isn't so realistic, but it gives me flashbacks of those crazy escapades.
Hmm, yeah, it could be that it resembles a little bit. Well spotted, I would never connect those dots. You see, how we can interpret the art stuff in different ways :))
Ha, ha, ha, ha. Of course, qualia is a thing :))
Today an art walk! I love and adore how you comment the post, I love it!
Love the first sculpture like looking at the horizon pensive, a giant bird that from its height sees everything.
Beautiful walk @mipiano ❤️
The giant bird looks toward the sunset, the river and the woods that are on the other side. For sure, it enjoys its views!
Thank you for coming to this art walk ;)
I wasn't going to miss it and Catalina is here watching it again!!!🐱
Totally love the sculptures - especially the silver stork (I assume thats what it is) at the start !

It is a heron actually, but they look similar ;)
I really like to see art in the streets, within reach of all those who want to stop and enjoy it.
The group of running greyhounds is my favourite. 🤩
Oh, indeed, now I remember you like greyhounds 😇
such a wide variety of cool art pieces but my favorite is Anja so tall it grabs one attention and the fact it reflects what is around it means its always changing how cool is that
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
Anja was not accepted by everyone when the sculpture was placed there, but now it somehow makes part of the promenade :)
I think thats the case with most art pieces theres always some that do not like it
I love coming across sculptures whenevr I'm on a walk. Lovely collection of pictures.
I can't over spongebobs theme song now 😆
hahahahhahha
😂
Yes....is it very important to see the whole pictures...the environment influence to the sculpture and she influence the environment. like a butterfly flying among the flowers of the garden...
Para poner una escultura al aire libre, lo correcto es tener en cuenta el ambiente donde estará emplazada y crear una sinergia que beneficie a la obra y al sitio.,... siiiiii es como la vida donde todo fluye concatenado
Hey there @pinero :))
Your opinion matters here a lot, being you an artist. Thank you for your insight, sí, es como la vida! ☀️
Coincido con usted 😇
Great walk @mipiano. Anja is so beautiful!
They just told me that in Cuba anja means "to nod" haha. So, Aña would be in Spanish. Thanks, nanixxx 👋
Cuando puse el nombre en el traductor de Google, me devolvió Anya. De nada, mipiano, es un tremendísimo placer siempre leerte. 👋
😇
gracias (peakD no funciona 🙄) estoy aprendiendo usar ecency. Son mis primeros pasos 😆
😂 test with the beta version of peakd.
justo cuando ya empecé a acostumbrarme al otro 😂
oki, así va 👏
Thank you for sharing. I feel like i went to ana art gallery museum because of these interesting photos. Yes, there are circumstances that its important to see the whole picture and other times, we also need to take a closer look at the whole picture.
This indeed could be considered as an open-air art gallery :))
You are absolutely right, there is time to see the details but also, when there are doubts we can try to zoom out and consider all the circumstances and background we are surrounded by 😉
Love modern art like this love the shots , and the apartment designation is very interesting and intriguing.
The apartment can serve as a good hiding place from the heat during summer 😉
yes good point well made. Though I guess coming from the UK I love and crave long periods of heat and sun
I couldn't agree with you more about the way you describe the importance of taking into account the creative process behind each piece of art. Conceiving it and perceiving it are very different things, perspectives that could even be opposite but never lacking in depth.
What a walk , a whole open air museum, contemplating and enjoying the proposal of those artists is a nice way to spend that Wednesday walk. :)
I know that if you were there, we could do some magic and transform these sculptures into edible pieces :))
Imagine that open-air food museum 😍

So much art everywhere! Art in any expression mixed with the elements of the urban landscape is a delight, they modify each other and enrich each other. Also in this case the pieces are sublime and very tasteful. Anja is amazing and the choice of material is a total success. The last sculpture is incredible in its simplicity and so many ways to interpret it that inspires. Thank you for letting us enjoy the beauty that your eyes have seen. Happy day.
I also like the last one, that combination of two colours and you are right, it is simple but can be interpreted in our own way :)
Thank you @mdrguez, I am so glad that in this way others could also see Anja (leerlo en español como Aña 😉) . Un abrazo 🤗
I had to laugh when I started reading your post, and is that here, when people (I don't know if in all Cuba) talk on the phone the expression "anja" is used to nod. Hahaha, excuse me but that expression came to my mind. 👍 By the way the chrome sculpture that bears that name is spectacular!
Hahaha, really? 😂😂😂
The chrome bird sculpture is impressive, anja 😜
( ese nombre se pronuncia como Aña) 😇
Hahaha. Anja. Nice about the pronunciation clarification, something new I learned. Thank you!
mipiano
Just like that, when such beautiful things are installed in such places, their beauty increases more and then people here are more egoistic.
