Going through the challenges of last year was not so much an easy task at all, I had to look for and offline work to help with spending in my family as I also make plans for my career which is at the to of my list

For this week I will be joining my fellow ladies to participate in the community contest for the week and hope to make it more regula. A big shout-out to the week's contest initiator for the week by name @amberkashif

1️⃣ Marriage is a universal tradition, yet its celebration reflects the unique values, customs, and traditions of each culture. What are the most significant traditions, customs, and practices that define wedding ceremonies in your culture? How do they embody your community's heritage and beliefs?

My country is one with diverse regious and cultural practices, we have over 250 ethnic groups and each of them have what differentiates them. Culture is said to be the unique ways people do things. But for better scaling we have majorly three different tribes which includes the Yorubas, Hausas and the Igbos. When you come to the Igbos which are located at the Eastern region in the country they are of different states. Going down to the States each local government are divided, we have different communities and clans. For better understanding, each clan do have their ways of marriage which is mostly peculiar to them. Personally, I am from the Eastern states and Imo State, the general knowledge most people have about us is that the ladies are expensive but this is not true in most cases. Every family have a way they decide to give their daughters in marriage which is so peculiar to them. From my own part, the father have an upper hand when it comes to deciding the things that will be contained in the marriage list.

The Igbo tradition do have it that the moment the marriage list is fulfilled the husband reserves the right to take the girl home because she is his property by the custom. For those who are christians and want to take it further can now go for the white marriage which involves going to the church to be prayed for by the priest.

Marriage is a beautiful things such that most African women take their time to prepare their daughters on how to stay with their husbands which is a good thing though this modern age it is important to also prepare the men on how to have a good home as many marriages are facing lots of crisis because of last of proper training.

It is a pleasure to be contributing to this week's topic. Thank you all for reading through my blog.

the general knowledge most people have about us is that the ladies are expensive

This makes me laugh but coming from Asia we do have similar tradition of requesting dowries to marry off daughters...but still, it can be interpreted differently (often negatively) by those coming from another culture.

Thank you for sharing about your culture 🙏
