My Mother Is A Gem || LOH #184 CONTEST

Who can know what it means to be a mother except a mother herself? My mother is the most precious gift Inhave received from nature and I can proudly say this anywhere, anytime. From the time I can remember, she has been my idol and the defense I never paid for. As I write this, different scenes flashed through my vision of some most memorable moments my mother had appeared for me.

It was my first day out of the house. At about five years, when one must be six years old before he or she can be enrolled in a school. I had a new uniform sewn and well ironed. I had mixed feelings about the event. But she was more emotional seeing her baby going to school for the first time ever. She held me and squatted to my face level and spoke some convincing words to my ears which ended with I love you, my baby. It was at this moment tears gathered in my eyes as she assured me that I would be fine.

Through the years, my mother had shown up for me in the time that I least expected. One very loving, funny and motherly step she took was when I was at the university, she came all over with a bag of foodstuff. I was busy with my lectures when I got a call from the school gate that I had a guest waiting for me. I was so worried that I hurriedly reached the school gate in no the only to see my mother calmly waiting for me with a bag of different kinds of processed food. What kind of love is this? Only a loving mother can give this or come this mile just to see to my welfare.

The role of a mother in the life of a child or the society in general are so numerous. I will delve into this using my personal experience.

Care

My mother can go the extra mile to ensure that she cares for my siblings and I. She is naturally built for this. Comparing her with other women around, one can see a resemblance in their objectives which further strengthens the argument that mother provides care and support for the family and their wards and their husbands too. At some point, their husbands become a baby and need to be cared for. A mother is wired for this and with a good upbringing, mothers would do just this and see it a responsibility for being a mother.

Training

I won't forget in a hurry how my mother took me through several sessions of training on culinary skills. I can boldly take over the kitchen from my wife anytime I feel like doing so to prepare food for the family. Thanks to my mother who didn't see me as a male child and let me aside from knowing what cooking entails. Also, cleaning and washing are not strange to me. Likewise, she taught us how to be disciplined and to run away from troubles. My watchword over the years is family because my mother taught me that family is all I have in the end.

Support

She was always there to support me too as she does to my other siblings. I used to have issues with my Mathematics while I was in school. My mother noticed this and employed the services of a Mathematics teacher to take me on an extramural session. Despite that I had a low mark in the subject, mother still patted my back encouraging me that there is room for improvement. One thing that distinguished my mother was her patience and animosity to give listening ears to everything we wanted to tell her.

Having said all these about my sweet mother, all her good deeds did not without a challenge. There are some notable challenges I saw her confront trying to provide comfort for the family.

Juggling With Work:
As a teacher, my mother was always on the move. She would prepare lesson notes and instructional materials for her students. This process is not for a lazy person. She also wants to meet up with the demands of being a mother to us and also do her job perfectly. The house chores were not left out. Truly, being a mother is a huge task but my mother gave it her best shot.

Inflation:
It is no more news that the cost of running a home is increasing daily. My mother had to sometimes procure a loan to be able to carry out some basic projects in the family.

Health Challenges:
Sometimes, she may not be able to carry a hand because she might have overworked herself. I used to feel that something was not right through her countenance but I was not able to place what it was until I became older. Depression and fatigue can set in for mothers.

In all, I do not think there is anything that can be used to quantify the place of mothers in the life of their wards and the betterment of society. My mother, and I hope so for all women around the globe, are just a gift that mother nature has bestowed on humanity.
