Street, photos, and curious gazes./Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Greetings, friends of #blackandwhite!

I enjoy walking through the streets to take pictures because it can turn out to be really fun. Not always, but often enough. Personally, I consider myself somewhat absent-minded because, when I want to take a photo, I get so focused that I completely forget about the world around me. I have plenty of stories, and today I’m sharing some of them with you.

I found an empty chair next to some paintings by a street artist. It struck me as odd not to see him around, so I decided to take some photos of the place. To my surprise, the man was watching me from a distance. He told me he didn’t like street photographers.

It takes me quite a bit of effort to do a panning shot, but it never stops being fun—especially because people watch me chasing moving cars and say, “What a crazy guy!”

Cubans are naturally very curious, and as soon as they see me taking photos—whether it’s from the top of a building or of anything else—they head over to investigate what I’m doing. They ask, “Why?” and “What’s it for?”

So, when I want to blend in, I do one of two things: I either pretend to be a distracted tourist or act like a clueless Cuban. And believe me, it works like a charm!

With younger people, I don’t have much trouble. On the contrary, they always seem indifferent to my presence. Sometimes I even want to stand out, but it’s like I’m invisible—they just pass me by. Although, on a couple of occasions, one of them has approached me to ask for a photo, but that’s rare.

Saludos amigos de #blackandwhite Disfruto cuando camino por las calles para hacer fotos, porque puede llegar a ser muy divertido. No siempre, pero sí en muchas ocasiones. En lo personal, me considero un tanto despistado porque, cuando quiero hacer una foto, me concentro tanto que olvido completamente el mundo que me rodea. Tengo muchas historias y hoy les comparto algunas de ellas.

Encontré una silla vacía junto a algunos cuadros de algún artista callejero, me resultó raro no verlo por allí y me dispuse hacerle algunas fotos al lugar. Para mi sorpresa estaba observándome a la distancia el señor. No le gustaban los fotógrafos callejeros, me dijo.

Me da mucho trabajo hacer un barrido fotográfico, pero no deja de ser divertido, y más porque la gente me observa cazando los autos en movimiento y dicen: ¡vaya loco!

Los Cubanos somos por naturaleza muy curiosos, y en tanto me ven haciendo fotos ya sea a lo alto de un edificio o cualquier otra cosa y allá van a investigar a ver que hago, preguntan ¿porqué? Y ¿para qué?.

Entonces cuando quiero pasar desapercibido hago dos cosas, aparento ser un turista distraído o me hago el cubano tonto. Y mira que si funciona eh.

Con los más jóvenes no tengo dificultad, al contrario, siempre se muestran indiferentes a mi presencia. Y en ocasiones quiero hacerme notar pero como si fuese invisible pasan de mi. Aunque un par de ocasiones alguien de ellos se acercó para pedirme una foto, pero en raras ocasiones pasa.
