The Joys And Pains Of Motherhood - Contest #184

Life is a school. We all came into the earth as novices. But as we journey through life, we find ourselves in various phases and stages going through certain experiences that sometimes bring laughter or tears depending on whether the impact is positive or negative.

In this post, I have chosen to respond to Question one from the options given by @trucklife-family for this week's Ladies of Hive Contest.👇👇

Motherhood is both rewarding and challenging. What has been one of your greatest lessons since becoming a mother?

My experience as a mother has been filled with so many great lessons. I will be touching on them below.

Selfless Living:
As a mother, I have learnt to live selflessly. I mean, when God has entrusted in my hands children who from the time I conceived them, a maternal instinct develops to the point that even my feeding and lifestyle is no more just a matter of how it affects me but also how it affects my children. Becoming a mother has really gone a long way to help me put others first as well as denying myself some things for the sake of my kids.

Non-judgemental Attitude
Being a mother, I have learnt to accept the individuality and uniqueness of other people. A common adage in my country is that all fingers are not equal. I have found this true as I observe my children and relate with them at individual level, and has helped me relate with other people irrespective of their strengths and weaknesses.

Being More Accomodating And Forgiving
In my experience as a mother, I find that things that would annoy me before and make me complain and nag somehow became things I can overlook. I stopped expecting too much from others as I became more aware of my own limitations even as a mother, and I developed an empathy for the limitations of others as well.

Letting Go
This was very difficult for me. But as a mother with a career and without a househelp, I learnt the hard way that it was okay to not finish all my chores in a day. My upbringing was such that each day's tasks must not be carried over to the next. I had to learn to unlearn that so I could stay alive.

These are some of the lessons I learnt as a mother. They are my own unique experiences and some of them I learnt the hard way. I hope you enjoyed reading.

You can join this contest which is a collaboration challenge happening between @ladiesofhive community and @dreemport community. See this post for more details.

The selflessness of mothers is out of this world.

It is one of the reasons I can buy a whole pharmacy for my mom if she coughs.

Thank you for being a mother.
