I too do the clean/heat the cup with water before brewing coffee. Temperature changes are very delicate in the beverage. However, you don't like to prepare coffee with boiling water, well we all have our own measurements and preferences, but have you tried to make it with a slightly lower temperature? About 90-93 degrees? That keeps it from burning.
