Breast cancer is one of the many diseases that affect women. Even tho men are also affected but the majority of the affected are women. The first time I heard about breast cancer I was like “we women too we have so many issues”. I didn’t really make time to read more about it to know what it is until I witness one for myself. I cried because it was so sad that a young girl of 23 years came to the hospital and was told she had breast cancer. And it was too late so one of her breasts had to be cut off. Till now I still I cannot get the image of her face out of my head. I sat down there and now taught to myself, if I was the one what would I have done.

As ladies we must take care of our bodies very well. Day in day out most of the diseases in the world affect more females than males making us more vulnerable. Being diagnosed with breast cancer makes the individual fearful and affect the individual psychologically. One might to isolate herself from people if there is no guidance.
None of my family members or none of my friends have been diagnosed of breast cancer and I thank Almighty God for that. I self-examine myself a week after my period to feel for lumps in my breast and whenever I feel anything abnormal I alert my aunt because she is a retired midwife and knows more than me. She always assures me that it’s no problem but if she also doesn’t know what it is we go to the clinic to check, and the results always comes out positive.

I’m going to be taking you though self-examination. Ideally you can self-examine your breast 1 week after periods ends. Before you do that that make sure to wash your hands and get cotton with you. If not then a white clean cloth will do.

  1. Stand in front of your mirror and first observe both breast of the shape
  2. Place your right hand at the back of your head and use your left hand to start massaging your breast. Start by gently massaging the armpit area with four of your fingertips leaving excluding your thump. Massage gently in circular motion feeling for lumps.
  3. Do the same for the other breast. You can decide to start from either the right side or the left. But make sure to place your arm at the back of your head whiles doing this.
  4. After massaging gently press the tip of the nipple to squeeze and use the tissue to clean. Observe if there is a fluid and the color.
  5. Take note of the fluid color and also of any changes in the breast and report to the clinic if there is any abnormality.

To all my ladies out there. It is true that breast cancer affects elderly women but let’s not forget that even teenagers or young adults can get affected. Let’s take note of this and self-examine our self. Early detection saves lives.

Thanks for taking time to read my post. Do not forget to self-examine yourself.

Thank you so much for sharing such an important topic! Breast cancer is indeed something that affects so many women, and it’s heartbreaking to hear stories like the one you mentioned about the young girl. It’s a powerful reminder that we really need to prioritize our health and be proactive with self-examinations.
