Oslo | Jul i Vinterland - Gorgeous Christmas Market

(Edited)

Hello, friends! We continue our journey in the capital of Norway and visit a fabulous and truly New Year's place in the heart of Oslo! Every year, before the New Year holidays, Jul i vinterland opens - a New Year's Market with a variety of stalls, an ice rink and entertainment. It is here that you can plunge into the fabulous festive atmosphere, taste an apple in caramel, hear the laugh of children and buy New Year's gifts for your loved ones.

The market is located in front of the Parliament in the city center, and the attractive garlands and loud Christmas music will not leave you indifferent and you will definitely come here. Right away, you will find brightly colored stalls with a very rich assortment. You will find everything you associate with the word "Christmas" here at the market.

The colorful carousel attracts not only children but also adults, who ride this attraction with great enthusiasm. You feel as if you are on the set of a New Year's movie - everything looks so beautiful!

And for the more courageous and those who are not afraid of heights, there is a Ferris wheel. We didn't risk a ride here because Eren is afraid of heights. But in Ukraine, I have ridden this attraction many times. No trip to our Kharkiv park would be complete without a Ferris wheel and flavored cotton candy. I'm sure that one day I'll persuade Eren to ride it.

And that's not all! There is also an ice rink here. I'm not sure if you can rent skates here, but if you have them, you're welcome! Spending an unforgettable evening at the skating rink with friends is something everyone should do during the New Year holidays.

We noticed a rather interesting place almost at the end of the market. It's a kind of New Year's roulette where you can win a tasty prize. The system is quite simple: you pay the numbers you think you'll win and wait for the results. And to be honest, I've seen many people with two-kilogram chocolates that you can win here.

And now, the most interesting thing is the theme shops! This is, of course, my favorite part. There's everything here: jewelry, hats, gloves, sweets, Norwegian fish and meat, farm products, hot dogs, and much, much more. What did I choose? It's quite simple - an apple in caramel. I have never tasted such a delicacy, although every New Year's movie has them. So, confidently pointing my finger at the window, I chose an apple in red caramel and white chocolate. And how pleasantly surprised I was that it tasted as good as it looked! There were many different options, for example, an apple in chocolate, but you must admit that the New Year's is an apple in caramel. So, if you haven't tried it yet, you should definitely try it. By the way, it's very easy to make at home. Maybe I will make it and share the recipe with you in my next post. So let me know in the comments if you like this idea.

Of course, there is also a small restaurant with incredible decor. I was just in stunned by these mechanical reindeer talking to each other! So, if you came to the market with a group of friends, tried all the possible attractions, took a bunch of beautiful photos and are already tired and cold, don't rush home! Warming up with a cup of aromatic coffee or spicy mulled wine is a great idea!

That's how our fabulous evening in the center of Oslo passed. I remember pre-war times in Ukraine, when we would get together with friends and go to our square (by the way, Kharkiv's Freedom Square is the largest square in Europe!) - so elegant and cozy. How loud the music was and how people were getting ready for the holidays. I miss these moments so much, but at the same time I am grateful to Oslo for the opportunity to experience them again. So, friends, I'm saying goodbye to you until the next post and wishing you all a good holiday mood. See you soon, bye!

I really enjoyed your article on the Christmas market in Oslo!

It sounds so magical with all the lights and festive atmosphere. 🎄

Here in France, where I'm from, we also have beautiful Christmas markets, but this one seems unique. I'd love to experience it in person one day. Thanks for sharing this experience; it truly makes me want to visit Oslo in winter!
