My first phone and the joy that came with it.

Hello, everyone.

I welcome you to my blog. Growing up I was one of those kids who would take my mom's phone and look for a corner to hide while I play games on the phone like my life depended on it and I was never satisfied but In order not to get caught I will sneak to return the phone after sometime before she realises it is missing. I could find my way around a phone right from when I was very little, I don't even need a guide all I need is to get a hold of the phone and watch me show my inborn talent.

designed in canva.

Was I happy about my first phone? Definitely I was the happiest person on earth day, mom just started her boutique business whereby whenever she wants to restock she can be away for 3 or more days and dad as a military man was never around and the only way they could reach us and check on us was through a neighbour, my elder sister was a boarding student which makes me the head in her absence and so they deemed it fit to get me a phone so they can reach us whenever they want to.

I was about 8 years old then, dad got mom a new phone and mom handed me her old phone, it is more like making it legal for me as I no longer need to sneak in to take the phone. It was an old phone but it did not reduce or affect my happiness, that day I was the happiest person. I kept smiling and was using the phone to call all my relatives both far and near, that night all my relatives knew I had a phone as I could not contain my excitement and needed them to share in my joy. My parents advised me on how to use the phone and the only reason they allowed me to have one is so they can reach us without disturbing any neighbor, so I better use the phone well and not let it distract me.

It was a Nokia phone, I had access to sites like waptric and wapdam where I downloaded lots of games and it did distract me because I can spend hours playing game, and burning food while cooking for my siblings and I became a habit but thank God my parents were not around if not I am sure they would have ceased the phone. I became a boss 😂, I stopped doing chores and had my siblings do it and in the end I rewarded them by letting them play game on my phone. I was the only one with a phone among my peers, it was a thing of pride.

A post in response to indiaunited prompt.

Thanks for reading my post.

Hahaha, this is so funny and relatable. I loved sneaking my aunty’s phone too then and I kept wishing for the day I’d finally have one for myself. I didn’t get a phone for myself early at all compared to my peers and for some weird reasons I was cool with it.

Sneaking to carry my mom's phone was really fun those days, thank God for growth though.
