The Shoe Drops Last, a wewrite freewrite

The first thing to drop was a box of Cracker Jacks.

“Fair enough” thought Jack. “I deserved that.”

The next thing to drop was a skunk.

That was a bit concerning to Jack. A skunk? Wtf?

Third came an old decrepit John Deere tractor, narrowly missing his brand new Audi, the one he had scrimped and saved for, for nearly half his life, just purchased and sitting proudly in his driveway so that anyone moseying past in their horse drawn carriages would see and envy.

When the cow came hurtling down from above, Jack had had enough.

He went inside to get a shoe for a weapon. He clamor-climbed up the beanstalk to confront the giant.

The giant was ready for him, in his cheese cellar, with the other shoe.

This is my entry to @mariannewest's daily freewrite challenge. Today's prompt is cattle falling from the sky.

After the timer went off, I looked up the meaning of the phrase the other shoe.

As often happens with my freewrites, this one has layers of meaning I am not aware of. It's also a great first installment for a wewrite, if you ask me. Any and all takers will be rewarded, probably with hsbi. Thanks for reading, now go finish my story!

How young are you??? Too young to remember a box of Cracker Jacks - back when the prizes were good - now, if you can even find a box, it's really tiny, and the prize is a lousy sticker.

@Owasco, you never cease to amaze me with the unexpected. Even with a prompt that means "anticipation of the expected and inevitable" you pull a surprise!

I'm intrigued by the Audi in juxtaposition with the horse-drawn carriages. Not just some treasure compliments of the giant - but a brand new car our hero "had scrimped and saved for, for nearly half his life" - yet there are horse-drawn carriages.
Love it!

Yeah, when I'm really freewriting (which has been hard to do for a good year or more now), things get weird. I enjoyed writing this one, it amused me. I wish someone would continue it! You?

It's kinda like that here, from carriages on the back roads or doing business in town, to Audis in town or out for Sunday drives. No cattle dropping from on high though.

I once had a dream about a buffalo flying across the sky, and I was going to write about that, but I got distracted.

When I told my then-therapist about the dream, she stifled a little laugh. Turned out "buffalo" was an anagram of her last name. I wonder how many of her patients had dreams about flying buffalos.
