LOH CONTEST #145 - MEMORIES FROM MY TEEN AGE

avatar

I had a lot of fun memories as a teenager. Among all, my secondary school memories seem to be the best. I spent my six years in a boarding house, and if you were schooled in a boarding house in Nigeria, you must agree with me that it was a mixed bag of fun and bitter memories.

I attended a federal government girls college, and as a junior student, the weekends were the worst time. You were literally a slave to the seniors. The senior students behaved like gods; they don't do anything for themselves. I remember one time when I was in JSS2 (Junior secondary school), there was this particular wicked senior that behaved like Queen Jazebel; no matter how much you complained to her and told her you were sick, she would still send you.

So one faithful Saturday, I was not in the mood for any seniors stress, and then this senior entered our room and asked all of us to go to the reservoir to fetch water for her. I pleaded with her to excuse me because I wasn't feeling fine, but she refused and said even if I was going to die, I would still fetch water for her.

Just like the rest, I followed her to the reservoir and took a plastic bucket because I already had a master plan in mind. I told someone to help me with the bucket on my head. When we were almost close to the seniors hostel, I sighted a place where, if I should pretend to slumb and faint, I wouldn't get hurt. So when we got there, I fell down with the bucket and pretended to have fainted. The senior and others panicked; they were trying to revive me, and I refused to be revived. They couldn't rush me to the school clinic because the nurse would definitely ask them what happened to me. So some of them started shouting that they should get milk for me. Hehe, I took a lot of milk that day before I decided to wake up. Rumors went around the school that I was a sickler and seniors should avoid sending me on errands. That was how I enjoyed my time as a junior student because most seniors were sacred of sending me on errands.

Also another thing I enjoy as a teen was traveling, it was one of my hobbies. My parents were staying in different states, and my secondary school was also in a different state, but it was closer to the state my dad was in. So you could imagine how my holidays were. I spent most of my time with my dad then, so whenever he was traveling for an official journey, he would take me along because he couldn't leave a teenage girl alone at home. This made me know a lot of places and also made me one of my geography teacher's favorite students because when questions were asked that had to do with some locations, mountains, nature, and the like, I was the one that was always answering the questions.

Those moments were adventurous and exciting for me.

Omoh! You were something ooo! Ha! 😂 This your OT is the boss. I heard all about boarding school and seniors from my Cousin. Sometimes I wished I was in one and other times, I thanked God I wasn’t.

Haha, boarding school was somehow interesting sha. But I don't think I would have gone there if someone had told me about it, the only thing my cousin told me was how she use to put enough milk and Milo in her cornflake, so I wanted to enjoy like her. I wanted having my own provisions and pocket money 😂😂
