(extra)Ordinary creatures

After an extraodinary themed week, for this week's SMAP the theme is... ordinary birds. Which is actually a hard theme, because even the most ordinary bird can be quite extraordinary (I might be a tiny bit biased, though...)!

Think of seagulls, for instance: yes, there are very similar species. Yes, we see them everywhere, even lining up in sand dunes.

But can they be extraordinary? For sure! Just look what I found while I was trying to captures some of them in flight; I was trying to frame them while they were passing by, and wayyy later as I was reviewing my holiday photos (and deleting the shitton of blurry focus of birds in flight)... I find this:

WTF???

I don't know if the seagull was possessed (exorcist, anyone?), or just trying to see her friends flying above, but I know I have never seen one flying like this before! And would totally miss it if it weren't for the random clicking... crazy gulls! 😁

Even the little ones can be quite extraordinary. This particular species was all over the place in Morocco.

House bunting - Emberiza sahari

Tiny birds, flying everywhere. And corageous enough of staring right back at you at very short distance, or shamessly entering your bedroom and poking around!

Yes, my bedroom was invaded quite a few times during my stay. But I really didn't mind, tons of photo opportunities! And their colours were really nice, these photos don't do them due justice. It was also a new species for me, so perfect cherry on top.

I did see familiar species too in those holidays, and with a sprinkle of extraordinaryness! You see, some familiar species actually have subspecies in different parts of the world. Sometimes almost equal, other times with subtle differences, such as the white wagtail!

Moroccan wagtail - Motacilla alba subpersonata

If you're familiar with wagtails, look at the colour pattern on the head: definitelly different from the white wagtail we have here in Europe! I didn't knew this subspecies, but when I saw her in the promenade I knew that colour pattern was different; fortunately for me, she posed for the camera!

See? Aren't they all (extra)ordinary? ;)

Saludos @pardinus, realmente los pájaros son extraordinarios pero también incomprensibles, no sabes con la que van a salir en algunos momentos.

I think I’ve seen the bird in the last photo before. Honestly, I’m not sure; I find it a bit difficult to identify them. And yes, I do think birds are extraordinary too.

It's a very easy species to identify, there aren't that much similar birds.

That seagull is really looking weird.🙂
The wagtail at first looked the same, but the slight difference is obvious.
Thank you again for your great post!

My pleasure! And for sure, the weirdest gull pose I've ever captured on camera! :)
