Silhouettes

When I saw this prompt, I thought nope, can't join this time...; but then I started putting my (few) remaining neurons working and remember that I could actually join the fun!

Silhouettes is the theme for this week's SMAP. And while I'm not the artistic photographer by far, some photos end up inadvertly being silhouette photos; since most of these are at that beautiful time of the day, when sun is going down on the horizon, the overall colours end up being a joy to the eye as well.

Like here, the first that I recalled for this post:

This was one of the coolest sunsets that I've witnessed, colours wise. I can tell you there is zero image processing here, this is the photo exactly as it came out of the camera. I won't name the species here (nor on the other photos, as I usually do) because I'm not 100% sure what it is: if I had to guess though, I would say it's a black crowned night heron. It's one of those photos where I was trying to capture the bird on camera and ended up with one of my favourite photos of this trip to Hungary, and the bird is not the attraction.

Since I'm on Hungary, found another silhouette in one of the urban parks. This one is actually easy to guess... wanna give it a try?

Easy, right?

No?

Ok, here's another one.

Hooded crows are a common sighting here, and this one decided to pose. Lighting wasn't that great, but since we have these awesome SMAP prompts, it's a great fit to this week's theme!

Coming a little close to neighbour Spain, another cute silhouette; I'm sure this one was near the end of a cloudy morning, as I was finishing a tour in Doñana national park.

A couple of common kestrels perching at a chimney, overlooking the fields. I wasn't able to get too close, but they didn't seem that disturbed by our group.

Cloudy days do predispose to photos like these. In one of my last birdwatching sessions, that was the kind of weather I was getting, making some identifications way harder!

Do love this photo as well although, like in the last photo, I was nowhere near a golden hour; but the twigs contrasting to the grey sky give it a really nice atmosphere! And later in the day, the sunset provided another photo, this one of the biggest bird in these photos.

If you guessed a common buzzard, you were right! He was probably admiring the sunset too, as he stood there motionless.

And to wrap it up as I started, a couple more at the golden hour! Again, I was going for the birds, ended up with a sunset bonus.

Black winged stilts were really abundant in these lagoons, and they were the perfect sunset models!

Nothing against the models, but the water colour is the one stealing the show here. Sunsets and birds do make a great combination after all! ;)
