My contest round 209/ Peacocks in the Estancia (Eng/En)

I have visited on several occasions the park La Estancia located in the center of the city of Caracas and is a haven of nature and tranquility among the hustle and bustle of traffic and noise.

In its beginnings it was a colonial hacienda of which there is still a beautiful house and gardens. Whenever I visit it, I always like to walk through the spaces and then sit and watch the birds.

This time I went to accompany my sister who was going to attend a dance class. And I stayed there doing what I like to do, looking at the plants and birds.

I waited for my sister to finish her class to take pictures with her phone, which is better than mine.

While walking through the gardens we came across these peacocks foraging for food in the grass. This male approached me with curiosity. They are used to people visiting the park.

It is a beautiful bird. The colors of its feathers are brilliant.

I was surprised to see several peacocks of the species Pavo cristatus, which is the blue-breasted peacock. More than on other occasions. They were both in the gardens and around the house. It is possible that they have good breeding conditions here.

They were very quiet walking in groups or in pairs. The male differs very well from the female by the beautiful spectacle of the fully open tail, which unfolds like a fan. This is a behavior performed during the mating season.

When the tail does not open, it can also be distinguished by the color of the neck. In the male it is bright blue and in the female it is metallic green. And also by the funny plume of three feathers on the head, which in the male and female are also of different colors.

This time I did not see any male displaying his tail, as I was able to do in another season when I visited the park.

These two females were lying very quietly on the floor. I liked this picture very much because it gave me the impression that they feel safe in this place where nobody bothers them.

Besides the peacocks we also saw ducks with their young. They reproduce in this park, and I am happy about that. This species is what we call here the creole duck (Cairina moschata) and they waddle around the gardens and approach people to feed them.

I enjoyed spending a few hours in this place in the company of my sister and admiring the birds that live here.

He visitado en varias opoetunidades el parque "La Estancia" ubicado en pleno centro de la ciudad de Caracas y es un remanso de naturaleza y tranquilidad entre el ajetreo del tráfico y el ruido.

En sus inicios fue una hacienda de la época colonial de la cual todavia queda una hermosa casa y los jardines. Siempre que la visito me gusta recorrer los espacios y luego sentarme a ver las aves.

En esta oportunidad fui a acompañar a mi hermana Teresa quien iba a asistir a una clase de danza. Y yo me quede haciendo lo que me gusta, viendo las plantas y aves.

Cuando mi hermana termino su clase recorrimos los jardines y tomamos fotografias con su teléfono. Este macho se nos acercó con curiosidad. Ellos están acostumbrados a las personas que visitan el parque.

Me sorprendio ver varios pavos reales como este, de la especie Pavo cristatus, que es el pavo real de pecho de color azul, mas que en otras ocasiones. Estaban tanto en los jardines como en los alrededores de la casa. Es posible que aqui tengan buenas condiciones para reproducirse.

Se veian muy tranquilos paseando en grupos o en parejas. El macho se diferencia muy bién de la hembra por el hermoso espéctaculo de la cola completamente abierta, que despliega como un abanico. Esto es un comportamiento que realizan en época de apareamiento.

Cuando no abre la cola también se puede distinguir por el color del cuello. En el macho es azul brillante y en la hembra es verde metálico. Y también por el gracioso penacho de tres plumas que tienen en la cabeza que en el macho y la hembra también son de colores diferentes.

Estas dos hembras estában muy tranquilas echadas en el piso. Esta imagen me gusto mucho porque me dio la inpresion de que se sienten seguras en este lugar donde nadie las molesta.

En esta oportunidad no vi ningún macho desplegando su cola, como si pude hacerlo en otra temporada en la que visité el parque.

Además de los pavos reales también vi patos con sus crias. Ellos se reproducen en ese parque y eso me alegra. Esta especie es la que acá llamamos pato criollo (Cairina moschata) y andan recorriendo los jardines y acercandose a las personas para que le den de comer.
