Shadow Hunting in theHunter: Call of the Wild

Hello and Welcome back to my blog!

This week's Contest theme from the Gaming Photography Community on Hive is "Shadow Hunters" and this gives me a good excuse to go and play theHunter: Call of the Wild and share some shots from this beautiful game.

This game is a beautiful-looking hunting simulator and the graphics are quite good. The best part has to be the beautiful landscapes filled with natural wonders like big mountains, trees and lakes. So, naturally, trees were models for my shots. There were plenty of them.

The shadows cast by those trees on the flat plains were interesting. But not all came out looking this clean. The above one was taken close to a Cave entrance in the Vurhonga Savannah map while the next one is from the Cautro Collinas Reserve.

In the same reserves lies a big abandoned church located on top of a hill. I have talked about this in one of my posts but today I found a way to enter this building. All the doors were locked on the surface but a nearby cave led me to an underground tunnel which went right into the church. The church is beautiful in itself but I was here to find some good shadows.

This caught my eye!

A tree casted a shadow on one of the interior walls with a beautiful pattern. It would be much better if the shadows were aligned inside the two arches.

But this was a faint one as the sun was not too strong at that point. There was a perfect contrasty one that I took in another map which came out good. The following one is from Silver Ridge Maps, one of my favourite reserves in the game.

If you look carefully you find that Sheru, my companion dog, has a bad habit of photo-bombing all my shots. He wants to be in all the shots. So, naturally, my next model was him.

Another interesting subject I noticed was the flags that you hoist to claim an outpost. Depending on the time of the day it can create some interesting shadows. My favourite one is this!

The wall of this log cabin was an interesting canvas choice for sure. Another structure that is around almost all the cabins is the notice board. Both the flag and the notice board combined to make a good picture and the shadows were sharp too.

Another unique shot that I took was of a large spinning windmill. These are found in the northeastern region of Hirschfelden Reserve. A took a lot of them until one came out good. It was hard to time it.

There are some random structures spread throughout the maps in various locations. One of the structures was a log cabin situated on top of a mountain in Silver Ridge Peaks. It serves as a watch tower too and I found some interesting patterns over here.

I travelled to the Snow Map to see if I could find some good shadows but my plans were ruined by the thick cloud cover. No matter how hard I tried to change the time multiple times (each cost exponentially more money) the sky was never clear. All I could salvage was this faint shadow of a tree on the snow.

That was all from me, I could have spent a lot more time hunting the shadows and might have gone to the multiplayer lobbies to get some more maps that I don't own right now. But it would risk me being sidetracked for hours hunting with random players...lol

I hope you liked those shots. Let me know which one is your favourite!

Thanks for reading...

Until next hunt...

"Fantastic shots! This is such an interesting theme, and you've captured it beautifully. Sheru’s photo-bombing adds a fun touch. Looking forward to more of your gaming photography!

The one with the tree shadow on the snow is my favorite, despite the cloud cover. Your shots are absolutely perfect bro

I loved the capture where you see a meadow and the shadow of the tree seems to divide the space in half, I would say that is my favorite one.

When it comes to shadows is something very important in video games, especially in this type, because there is a great variety of landscapes and environments. Sheru's shadow seems to be as loyal as she is to you hahaha.
