My favorite space in our home is undoubtedly my room, especially my bed. There was a time when I spent most of my days in the living room, enjoying the company of my family. However, lately, I find myself retreating to my room more often.

Sometimes ago, my daughter asked me why I am always locked up in my room. I struggled to give her a proper response, but she finally making a playful excuse that after a hectic day at work, it’s necessary to take time to rest. But once she left, I couldn’t answer my the question myself, "Why am I always in my room?"

The reality is that living in Nigeria has made us all more humble. The president is dealing with us all in the name of restructuring the economy. The economic challenges we face can feel overwhelming, and I find solace in the familiar confines of my bedroom, using my phone or laptop as distractions from the daily upheavals around us.

Spending time in the living room or other areas of the house feels less enjoyable these days. Even when I try to connect with my kids, it seems they prefer their own space. I find them engrossed in cartoons while I look for more engaging content. I’m not exactly in the mood for animated shows, so I let them enjoy their time.

Likewise,my attempts to join my wife in the kitchen often end with me being gently sent away. She has good reason for it, as I have a habit of sneaking bites before the meal is ready, which she finds distracting and annoying. It seems the kitchen isn’t quite the place for me, either.

As a result, I often retreat to my bedroom, where I chill with a cold can of beer and some entertainment on my devices. Despite spending considerable time in my room, I still make it a priority to be present for my family. They are my everything, and they deserve my attention.

Interestingly, my wife also spends substantial time in the bedroom, so most of the times,I’m not alone. This shared space strengthens our relationship and love life, allowing us to connect on a deeper level even amidst life's chaos.

I’ve come to appreciate the quiet moments we share, even as we navigate our individual distractions. This time together, though in our separate worlds, reinforces the bond we have. In a way, our time in the bedroom turns into a safe haven where we can retreat and recharge, while still being present for each other and our children.

The bedroom seems to offer you the space you need for peace and enjoyment :) That's okay, we all need some alone time to reconnect with ourselves too hehe. It's nice that you do prioritize spending time with your family :)
